Not the case Barge , was chased by a few clubs and you can take that as fact .
i think dosa is falling behind the eightball as usual, they dont recruit the right players as usaul.onballers, quality pollished ball skilled onballers.and a quality ruckman.when they do that, thats when they will be a force again till then they will struggle, lucky to be top 4 next year.

Josh "tennis Balls" Nelson didn't get on that well with Gilmour the last i knew. Hence Nelson not finishing the 07 year out with Brighton.
Matt Riseley as a pick-up is definately nothing to write home about.

uni has picked up heaps, thats what i heard anyway, reports have it Rat Gilmore, ben beams, charlie rae, matt riseley, jim dunham, john mazey, charles jones, cameron burgess and bryce o'garey have all signed so far!

don't know about josh nelson though heard he was playing with kermandie!
they shoud be competative this year and there midfield will have some big names in it with rat, beams, burgess and dunham as long as the forwards can produce, chucky jones did get 60 odd for kermandie last year so he is capable of producing!

I would be very surprised if Bryce O'Garey had signed at Uni.

Pretty Harsh - from watching the comp over the years I think DOSA would be the most consistent side considering they never seem to spend heaps of cash on so called big name players! A lot of the other sides seem to be good for a couple of years then go bad for awhile while they recoup the spent money where DOSA are always there abouts. From previous years you couldn't write them off just yet! From watching the finals over the last couple of years etc I think they have good on ball players but probably lack speed over the ground and the kicking skills of a few players let them down compared to teams like Hutchins with Harris etc running around.

not harsh, just outlaying the truth,i neva said they were not consistant or shit, and you just said what i stated slow on ballers and lack skill when neaded in big games, every grandfinal they have lost over the years which they should have won easy, have been lost due to poor ball skills kicking into the forward line, plus to slow compared to apposeing onballers

Heard today from several sources that Cygnet and Kermandie will be putting applications into join the Old Scholars as well as Channel for the 09 season.

Watch this space.

Why would they want to do that?

Cygnet did make enquires 2 years ago about joining - from what I've heard Cygnet have lost a number of players for the next season.

Only explanation I could come up with would be with the new regional league having a large number of teams they see it as an opportunity
to move in another direction.

Would go against everything the Old Scholars stands for - not paying players and minimal travel.

why would"nt you want to play in the osfa its the best comp in tasmania
Agreed, who wouldn't want to play in the comp

I think that if the competition went along the lines of having more and more teams, it would end up just being the regional league of old.. And I personally don't think this is a very good idea..

People come and play in the OSFA for a bit of Social fun footy, imagine if another 3 or 4 teams came in, some players would just leave because of the extra commitment.

I'm not opposed to Channel entering (I would really love a bye ;)), because they are struggling BIG time financially and players wise (from what I've heard).. But I don't see the merit in Kermandie and Cygnet joining..

I agree it would be great to help out a struggling club and offer them a lifeline but if you bring in a club that is used to paying more than 3-4 players its puts pressure on all existing clubs.

From what i hear from a reliable source they are still cashed up but cant attract any players.

I say keep the comp the same, its in as good a shape as its ever been in my 14 years.

It would be a backward step for the comp to allow those 2 teams to join.. It could see the possibility of clubs not sending their strongest teams to away games as the older, more family oriented players would not travel that far just for footy.. As I imagine that would be the reason they joined the comp in the first place.. As for those clubs bringing in an imbalance with player payments.. I don't think they'd be able to compete with Richmond for payments so it's a green light in that regard :p

I was at a meeting to vote Richmond in to the osfa ,was dead against it from the start but they turned me around with thier proposal which included that the club would fold if they didnt get in . When asked about player payments they swore black and blue to follow the osfa rules .when a club has a great supporter base they are allways going to be cashed up paying under the table is going to happen.

So for the record NO TO CHANNEL the comp may continue to prosper but it will be the down fall of a few founding clubs.

Shite this soap box is high :)

I would rather the comp stay as is to be honest, any1 who has played in it for a while or been around will tell you its a great comp and certain aspects make it great, like travel.

I feel sorry for Channel and the others but really not the osfa problem and could see something like this stuffing our comp right up.:thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

well i would say they lied to you moogrot about match payments,as you probaly worked out,ive got it from a good source being a richmond committee member that they pay alot of players down at richmond but as you said you cant police under the table slide of hands.

After talking to a St Virgil's committee member they are dead against any new clubs and will vote the same way OHA will (definitely NO).

I think this will be knocked on the head pretty quick from what I hear a No vote from all clubs expect maybe Richmond.

Anyway with pre season now started for most clubs any news on new players or training numbers?

Let Channel in

So in 2018 when there are even fewer football clubs and say 3 in the OSFA will the SFL say "no way" to taking Old boys clubs in? One would hope not.

As for the travel its a whole 30 mins from HBT>Channel twice a year.

Get a life and think outside the square everyone. We are all part of the football family and need to work together.

The SFL has accomodated the Statewide and so should all other comps. Changes are necessary & people should be forward thinking with not just their own agendas in mind.

Come on make this one happen for a proud club that is on its knees.

Its not like the old days where there was an East Coast League, the Tasman, Peninsula, OSFA B Division etc. Clubs can't just swap around like they once did.

Easy for you to say all this when your not involved in the league and haven't seen what bringing Richmond into our league has already done.

Every club has been forced to spend more money (most don't have it to start with) to compete with Richmond paying the majority of its players.

Richmond guaranteed they would not pay above the limit of 3 or 4 players (or whatever it is) but did so in there first season and continue to.

The Old Scholars has in my 14 years prided itself on only paying 3 or 4 (sometimes less) players each season and allowing guys who work Sat mornings or have families to play as travel to any game is only 10 minutes away.

Bringing Channel (or any Regional league club) into our comp will only force clubs to fold not improve our strong association.

Channel have plenty of money - have been offering players (some only average) big dollars, a player from our club was offered $500 a game, they can swear black and blue they will not spend up big but it "would" happen, and you think strong financial clubs like Cygnet or Kermandie wouldn't spend plenty to be successful!

I feel for Channel or any other club struggling but for our league to offer them a lifeline would only place my club or a proud Dosa or Uni into dangerous waters and I'm not willing to help another club out to endanger the club I love.

Re: Let Channel in

Easy for you to say .....................
You have raised some very valid points George. No doubt the OSFA has something pretty cool going for it and a good tradition built up over many years.

I can see why you folk are keen not to upset the apple cart. Just a pity the SFL couldn't be two div's but there seems not enough teams for that to happen.

Spot on Geroge Bluth .I dont want to see any club fold (still cant get over Kempton ) but I know that we can not compete finacialy with the likes of Channel and other regional sides. Maybe for one year you pay heaps and keep up then start to struggle because the cupboards empty then you start getting a few floggings and you cant attract any one to your club.

I spoke to an extremely high up OSFA board member yesterday who said "It would be alright I guess" on CHannel coming into the comp.

Sounds like the clubs & Association needs to sort out the $$$$$ issues at hand and get a grip of things to me.
