He's obviously an emergency pick. Before poor old Dean went down, they'd had a very good look at him. Fly and Leppa know him from their Richmond days, but it wasn't enough to get him a spot. So that's not a great recommendation and I'm expecting very little.

He got a spot didn't he? Steene filled a bigger need. They wanted both of them.
Great result 👏

At the Tigers he was never going to get in ahead of Vlastuin and Grimes both guns but he was suited to their game plan. Friend who loves Tigers rated him really highly. I think he is a stop gap for Ryan and be fighting for a spot across half back with Hoskin-Elliott and Ruscoe also ok back up for Howe. Murphy as well. Dean may come back mid season (Hopefully we can get his feet right) and chances are we will prob have someone else for LTI to replace him.

Yup,
A Richmond supporter friend of mine also rated him and thinks he is a good pickup. IMO likely will get some games time this year.

One of the more bizarre arrivals at the Pies, given his very brief stint at Carlton - did he run from Olympic Park to Princes Park and back to Olympic Park? Sad also for Dean.

The club moved quickly on this, bringing in a backup who is an adequate enough player for when we need him.

Yep, this. Good luck Oleg - who knows, maybe you'll be our journeyman "Spangher" type and roleplay your way into a medal.

We were always going to fill the last vacant list spot with a young developing ruck.
Obviously, also keen to have a closer look at Oleg…just in case another list spot opened during SSL window…it did & we secured him.
Good for the Club & Oleg…most unfortunate for poor Dean.

Probably had to…. To ensure they didn’t lose him to Carlton. As bad as the Dean news is, the one consolation is that it happened during the SSP period so we could immediately replace him with a player we’d been trialling anyway.

Have you considered a career in motivational speaking?;):moustache:

Oleg has always looked a really good athlete. Maybe they want to reinvent him somewhat into the person to lock down on the electric small forwards and use his pace to get back when the other team breaks quickly. Free IQ up a bit more as he is really projecting like we need to get him further up the ground and doing more damage with his penetrating disposal

I’d expect offering a rookie spot this time of the year is just that, an emergency pick to cover injury and some depth.

I doubt any club would think a guy added 8 weeks prior to the season commencement to be best 22.

If we need to call on him, at least he has some AFL experience.
