Is that you Steve? Hearing a few blokes won’t be training in the hope to be right for the weekend, don’t strain them in the warm up.
I was there on Saturday, on the wing on the river side. You’re the poster boy for ‘Don’t play after being concussed’ by the sounds of you, it appears to have done irreparable damage.

I was watching the 2016 afl grand final the other night, Kieran jack goes back with the flight and is accidentally cleaned up by easton wood, no 50 no report. That action would get 4 weeks now in the afl. If anyone thinks the afl are trying to protect the head its simply not the case, all it is, is so they can get insurance for the game. The nfl don't suspend players for headhits unless they are a multiple offender.
I'm not suggesting that the affects of concussion aren't real, but you actually can't stop head hits in a game which is 360 degrees, ball bounces funny, the ball is alive on the ground and in the air. Where you need to tackle to stop the player and them getting rid of the ball, part of the game involves shepherding and body contact or actions that are purely used for Aussie rules for 150 years. There is rarely a punch thrown these days, which is a great thing, there's no coming off the line and cleaning guys up.

Most of my concussions came from awkward landings, after attempting to mark floating punts. Not out long. Got up and continued playing - all good after 10.

I was talking to a prominent specialist recently about concussion due to my issues.

He said the AFL have actually missed the point of what the former players are saying via their lawsuits.

The players aren’t saying that the AFL didn’t do enough to stop concussions from occurring. Their concern is that there was no plan, direction or process in place to treat them, protect them from playing too early, being exposed to further concussions whilst still affected etc.

Now my view of this that the players should take most, if not all of the responsibility themselves

I wouldn’t want players in my team that aren’t hell bent on getting back out there, you’d have to strap me down if I got told I was missing a preliminary final over a mild headache. Interesting no one is giving the Rovers a chance, I might duck across and watch Yarra train. Both Wangaratta sides have as close to a home ground advantage as you’ll get on mutual territory. An extra hour to get in the zone.
Wether you like it or not big Lez times have changed.
There is far more education and awareness around concussion and long term effects than in your era. Players look after themselves more too, it’s just where we are at. I understand where you are coming in regards to the not being hell bent on getting back out there, I used to have the same opinion in my playing days, I was lucky enough to avoid concussion but I was injured a fair amount with bones and ligaments etc and went back on the ground and did more damage and I couldn’t fathom why my team mates weren’t willing to do the same. It wasn’t until I was properly educated about health and injury recover and long term effects that it all made sense to me. Your mindset is in the 80s. I bet Max Rooke had a similar outlook to yours in his playing days only to be where he is at currently, along with a growing list of ex players

The players should take all the responsibility, why do country footballers get 21 days out yet league players get 7-14, it’s all a complete load of hogwash. You think a player like Cattapan is going to wander in to Muzza’s office on selection night and rule himself out of a qualifier when he feels fine? I refused a stretcher out at Tarrawingee one Saturday, was clobbered in a pack, reefed the ball down and was knocked out cold on impact, punctured spleen and 4 broken ribs. I crawled for 200m to the shithouse, was back out there in the last.
