Here's a chance to talk some positive stuff..instead of the negatives.

We all know of long term injured players who are slowly but surely coming back into footy.

So this is a chance for us to talk about players who are either playing reserves footy after being injured for some time or perhaps those who are knocking the doors down for senior selection after such a lay off.

I'll open the batting with Jason Johnson. For much of the last 10 years, JJ has been the backbone of the Bomber midfield. Tough and courageous, the amount of time he has missed this year because of injury is frustrating to everyone at Essendon.

Well it appears from this week, JJ will be playing in the Bendigo side, eyeing off a possible return to senior football in time for an unlikely finals tilt. Good luck JJ.

Good luck JJ...one tough customer.

On our side we have Trent Hentchle slowing getting back into it after those horrific knees were reconstructed.

Not sure if they will use him this year , he is playing SANFL a bit. Might slot him in if we play finals, might just let it go until next year.

Either way...all the best both lads !

He has again done the hammy so i think it's a write off for Trent this year. Poor bloke can't take a trick, the restof his body is letting him down now

It's been talked about many times over here in the past how his comeback has really hit the players. Especially after the doctors said his injury was more like that of a car crash victim.

Wouldn't have been in the seniors even if he was fit. Sorry to be negative but this is the truth!

Jesse Smith, I think this season is over for him, he has had a shocking run his whole career.

Aaron Edwards should be back in the next 2-3 weeks after breaking his leg.

This week's comeback good news story: Jared Crouch, now the wrong side of 30 and playing in his first senior game for 2008, played a cracker of a game against the Dogs.

Nic Fosdike also hopefully to bust through for his first senior game of the year, either this week or pretty shortly.

Unlikely Jess will play. Edwards is over his injury I believe and should start back with the VFL this week assuming full training goes well this week.

McIntosh is about 2-3 weeks away. Doing the hard yards on the track, would like to see him have a couple of games before finals to get back into it.

Higgins, has got star written all over him but has had some rotton luck with injuries, played reserves last 2 weeks and is set to comeback in time for the finals.

Also Scotty West close to resuming after being out all year, hopefully only about 2-3 away...

Sam Butler has played 2 games since the 2006 grand final because of a series of groin injuries. Most West Coast supporters can not wait until he gets fit, he has class written all over him, and the last few games if 2006 he was just starting to show it. Taking it slowly atm, but I know I can't wait until he can play consistent footy in the AFL

From Hawthorn...

Ben McGlynn - shocker of a year, suspensions and minor injuries stopped any consistency or build-up of fitness. Was approaching full fitness with an extended training block, then another muscle injury the week after resuming with Box Hill

Crawford - back playing this week, hopefully the knee can see him through another 10 games, god knows he's earnt it.

Bateman/Lewis/Sewell/Guerra all seemingly over their short-term injuries.

Clinton Young - been battling a back complaint of some sort over the last two months, almost ready to return after a week or two with Box Hill.

Max Bailey, suffered a second setback in his ultra-cautious recovery from knee injury last year, finally returned to Box Hill (after six weeks of full training), lasted just 10 minutes and went down again. The 2nd ruck spot has been ably filled (again) by Taylor, and whilst he might be fit for end of season, is aiming at a rd.1 return next season. Hawthorn extended his contract despite (or because of) his injuries.

Beau Muston also suffered setbacks in his recovery from knee reconstruction(s), a few weeks ago was flying down the training track, unseen for the last couple. Will be looking at rd.1 2009 return/start.

Danny Jacobs (retired) - no doubt enjoying the reduced stress on his back, hope retirement is suiting him well.

Beau Dowler (hip) - last month has found some freedom, running well and getting 25+ touches each week in the VFL. Outside chance (very) of getting a game or two for Hawthorn - massive improvement from two months ago when he was a potential delisting.

Mitchell Thorp (life) - who knows. Took three weeks off recently to get over various niggles, put in a serious training block, and had his first hit-out last week. Yet again within a quarter was hobbling around - just can't take a trick.

McEntee/Moss/Sandilands - too far away from seniors to worry about, but both struggling with niggling injuries.

Mitch Brown and Paul Haselby, the two hard luck stories for WA footy this year. Both did their knees pre-season, and both have had to sit and watch their respective teams struggle all year!! :(

Has looked like he was in for a good year in three quaters he managed in the pre season, very devestating to see...even for a WC fan. The bloke had been shat on the last few years!
As for Mitch Brown, well...this was supposed to be his second season, but it turned out to be nothing but recuperation! Much was made of how much he had bulked up and all the talk was abouhow much progress the young lad had made over summer!

Hope to see both blokes back on the track soon, fit and firing in 2009. :thumbsu: :)
