Guess we all now know who is the better footballer out of Goddard and Wells.

Goddard by a country mile. Wells has a long way to go.

And Walker may be better than Cooney. Oh well, can't expect all the recruiters to get it right every year.

That's real great - basing the question on the one game.

Anyway I'll take Wells anyday.

Why?

Last kick of the game vs Carlton that's why.

Kids that can do that don't come around very often - and we've got one!

So intsead of basing the question on one game, you're basing it on one kick?

I'm basing who I would rather have in my side on the fact that Wells has done something Goddard hasn't.

I'm not making any assumption to who is the better player as they are both kids in their second year, and it is impossible to tell.

And Garth P must agree that Chris Judd is a better player than Luke Ball on his logic, as Judd has done more in his career so far.

Wouldn't it be "funny" If Goddard did his knee tomorrow and never fulfilled his "potential" and Wells does and finishes in 10 years the better player.

What a ridiculous call.. to say he is a better player now.

WTF? So according to your 'theory' you can never compare two players until they've retired on the off chance that one might get injured and not fulfil his potential? You get stupider by the day, I think you should get a check-up and make sure you don't have some degenerative brain disorder......

While it is easier to compare Goddard and Wells because they were taken in the same draft, you can only look at comparative form in the first season and a bit. Personally Wells looked better to me at times last season but Goddard being a part of a Saints team taking all before it at the moment is bound to look better and have more time to choose right options.

I think Goddard may well end up being the better player but they are different types and unless you put them in equally dominant sides, the argument holds little water IMO.

no... Not until they retired.... but what sort of idiot compares 2 guys who are both 19 and playing their 30ish games. Look at someone like Josh Fraser.... or Clive Waterhouse...heralded No 1 picks... everyone said they would be starts too after around the same amount of games. Are they better players than a Simon Black at #18 who started off slower or a Daniel Kerr at #18? What about the "next Gary Ablett" Clint Bizzell.

Saying 1 player is going to be better that another in this stage of their careers is just ridiculous. Comparisons like that come back to bite you on the ass.

I'd rate both on a par at the moment. Both are still in their infancy in terms of AFL careers and play different roles within their club's set ups.

Goddard could and would be a lot more if the Saints weren't so packed with mid-field talent, but Wells strikes me as more of a burst-player. No, that doesn't mean he has a hole in him. :)
