Buddy Franklin makes this edition and looks like he might make the 23-24 edition too
He's no longer doing what he used to but he's still best 22 this year and has had a solid last month. And he's somehow become a decent contested mark now that he can no longer leap

Obviously at 37 it's a big risk but the fact that neither Amartey or McLean have stepped up as forwards means it could be one worth taking.

He's done alright considering most were saying he wouldn't even come close to seeing our his initial contract with us.

^ But he's played only 12 out of 18 games. He misses 1 in every 3 games played.

When he plays, his output is actually above average for a forward.

He has kicked 3 goals against Freo, North Melbourne and GWS when they were terrible (though the Swans were then too).

Goalless 4 times when previously he hadnt been goalles more than once or twice a year for his entire career.

His output is average at best. And youd only keep him on if the young forwards still werent ready.

This could just be garbage and the Swans driving excitement for the rest of the year and memberships for next year.

Some popular suggestions in Trent Cotchin and Jack Riewoldt did themselves no favours yesterday

Neither of them have been keeping anyone out of the team that deserves to be in though. Bit rough for a 35-year-old Jack Riewoldt to pretty much play as a sole key forward. The Lynch injury has been disastrous for us. Cotchin had a shocker but has been okay overall.

I think the Rd 17 match against Sydney finally finished Jack. First he ran out in long sleeves (I can't remember him ever wearing those before), which made him look Grandad rugging up before he goes out for a kick in the park with the young 'uns.
Then he took one last specky (and it was a good one), and then he just lay on the ground for a while as if thinking 'I can't do this'. ('And I can't get up'.)

His role this year was to be 'Sneaky old bastard in the forward pocket whe steals a couple of goals while the defence gang up on the key forward (Lynch)'.

Without Lynch, he has to be the target to show his teammates the general direction to kick the ball. Classic 'playing the structure'.

Yeah Reiwoldt still has earned his spot imo. Will end up kicking over 30 goals for the year, so hardly horrible

But Cotchin has been hopeless a lot of this year. I legit didn't realise he was actually out there until almost half time and was surprised to read that he had 9 touches

Your spot on with your comment about that mark. I noticed him with the look of. Shit that hurt. I can’t do this anymore

Cotchin has had some very good games and some very poor ones. No one is knocking the door down for his spot in the reserves unfortunately. But yeah he's done.

Cotchin is a 2nd tier mid this year (behind Taranto, Hopper, & Prestia), and his stats reflect those of a player playing that role. If people are going to judge him against his peak, then yeah, he's bad...but for the role he's playing he's doing OK.

Of course, for the role he's playing, a kid in the 2s who was playing well might have taken his spot a little more often if he was 'just anyone'.

I think at the start of the year the idea would have been to see him to 300 games and see how he and the season are going. Being on the edge of making finals has probably meant the selectors have played safe and given him a game knowing he'd be solid rather than taking a punt on kids (Hardwick leaving probably added to this).

What happened to Sonsie? Has he been injured? He looked good last year.
Had no preseason and struggled ever since. His last few weeks have been a lot better though. Hopefully with another pre seaosn he can build his fitness up and step into Cotchins spot next season.
Dylan Grimes is by far the biggest problem for Richmond these days. And they gave him a 2 year contract extension hmm
1 year extension. Hopefully he can see the writing on the wall and tear it up. Doubtful though. Hope he's happy playing reserves next year.
