Have to say.The acting part of his game is far more glaring now that he's on the decline. Yesterday a perfect example.
Plz Dylan cut that crap out before your looked upon as a cheat than a great of the game.
Dylan got away with a lot of ducking and diving in his early days and now the umpires are paying him back in spades similar to Lindsay Thomas and the guinea pig ginnivan

JGTI would've kept Ross out or if not then Campbell or MRJ and they were three of our bests. JGTI would've been another 1955 tractor in our Midfield and the margin could've been worse.
agree, matty rowell absolutely towelled up Taranto, if Graham had a been assigned to him, Rowell he would have picked him up, chewed him up spat him out.

I agree with Balta as second ruck, but we still need someone else in defence. Maybe Miller because Young and Gibcus need support. Broad's looking only a little better than Grimes too. Maybe Brown to play back there if Broad can play taller. I'd put Baker in the back half too and play Short on a wing.

Which means if Balta plays second ruck then Kosi has to stay in because Naismith can't play as a forward.

Out: Grimes, Ryan, Prestia, Dow, McIntosh, Naismith.
In: Lynch, Nankervis, McAullife, Ross, Martin, Brown.

B: Broad Young Vlastuin
HB: Baker Gibcus D.Rioli
C: Short Ross Banks
HF: Taranto Balta Martin
F: Campbell Lynch M.Rioli
Foll: Nankervis Hopper Bolton
I/C: McAullife, Brown, Banks, Kosi
Sub: Pickett

Something like that. Or Balta to the backline and Cumberland in instead of Brown. Ideally I'd bring them both in but that's not going to happen.
I was surprised that we started with only two key defenders when the suns had King Lukosous and Casboult. Really was asking a lot of Young and Gibcus. Grimes is not quick enough or big enough to match up on these guys anymore. Should have played Miller as defender/2nd ruck

I think the hard thing about where we are is we aren't sure if we play the kids or the team most likely to win. But round 2, surely the kids have to earn a guernsey with good performances in the vfl, and afl players not contributing get dropped. Age shouldn't be a factor yet, have to reward performance in the twos. With that I think Ryan and naismith get dropped for nank and Martin with balta being 2nd ruck. And from there on we trust the team to assess performance best.

English looked better than Ryan at the same stage.
You're right Hoosy. LOL English could keep his feet, hold a decent mark, push his opponent aside , get a ruck HO , show some aggression and not be bullied around, tackle and jump. This is Ryan's fourth season and to be constantly moping around in the fetal position at 206cm is an unsightly look. Tim English was already an established AFL footballer in his third season , so people are saying Ryan needs two more seasons? This means he's six years before he develops into an AFL footballer? I'm sorry he hasn't shown enough and it's pig shit bc he's still behind English after four years to when Timothy was in his first season. The two are chalk and cheese.

As far as I can see, he will never make it. Don't worry about the old chestnut that it takes longer for the big blokes to mature. He just doesn't have it, and doesn't seem to want it either. That's the disappointing thing. From the outset reminded me of Chol. No second effort forthcoming. Too happy to watch the ball get walked out of defence by the oppo.
Unfortunately I don't think we can delist anyone as our 1st 2nd and 3rd round draft picks will probably go to replacing retiring players. Let him play in the vfl and continue weights and who knows where he gets to. He probably only needs to be ready for when nank retires so he has time

I'm not saying bring Graham in I'm saying we missed a defensive mid. Or a mid that will actually tackle and apply pressure. Saying McAuliffe needs to come in, not Graham
no JGTI doesn't do any of that bc he's treacle and he would've been chasing tails all day. This defensive mindset is all trash talk as we have enough of these foot soldiers in the team. How about get some blokes in the team with some offensive offset and hurt teams on the scoreboard. Bolton , MRJ and Balta would look even better.

Our ball movement is just bad. We run away from the man with the ball and barely look back. We never have a player lead back and give them an easy kick to help retain possession. We just run off and then only turn around once we are in the midst of the opposition.

Watch a lot of our games and guys tear off to get ready for a long kick down the line that we never seem to mark. It’s boring ineffective and crap to watch.

Especially baffling as we are in general a team that struggles with contested marks.

I'm not reading to much into this game. We came in and were stung by a side that were mentally far more switched on. They had something to prove. Gold Coast have A grade, high draft talent who have largely underperformed, Rowell a case in point. Suddenly have a successful coach so no more excuses. They came out like a veteran side.

And it was the veterans and not our young kids who let us down early. Left the pub 8 minutes to go in the 2nd Q because I could not watch anymore another seasoned players under no pressure at all, kick another perfect dart onto the chest of a GC player, amateur hour.

Good to see us rebound on the back of players like Bolton and Balta and a backline that started to work as a unit. Balta looks a great partner for Lynch. Campbell looks like a player, classy quick, tackled well enough. Ross added class with the ball, Hopper did not stop, even Dow who did nothing much offensively was much better defensively, his first half was dreadful. Good learning experience, if he starts with that defensive attitude the offence will follow and he will not be a liability, which he was in the first half. Good to see MRJ actually chase and harass and get the ball and use it well.

I'm wondering where Grimes fits in. He was so static. Offers zero offensively and sort of reminds me of George in his last year, I've got the ball, now what do I do with it other than kick it 25m to a player in nothing position. Another who I can't quite work out is Banks, no acceleration so floats around a bit. Shouldn't be dropped because it is harsh to drop a player after the first game of the year but he has a fair way to go.

Much better side next week, 3 big in's. Out Ryan is obvious, then Kosi then Banks. Harsh but we have a full list, so that's footy.
From the VFL, McAuliffe looks like a player and I reckon Smith's got lots to work with. Clarke was very good as well, deadly around goals and getting some size. Trezise was good. Sonsie to come back.

Nit picker much? How about you open your eyes and stop the micro-managing and maybe you'll see something?

EDIT --- Like the worst half of football we've ever played?
Are you okay? I didn't pick out anything, you brought up TT. By your logic Nank is no good or swans wouldn't have traded him. Same as Prestia, same as Caddy etc etc. Not to mention opposition players, like the last 2 Norm Smith medal winners for instance.

First half terrible.

3rd quarter brilliant

last quarter Suns took the pace out of the game and just cruised to victory

Rowell was brilliant. Single handedly massacred us.

Ryan just doesn't have the body strength to play against AFL KPs and rucks. Don't care about any other talent, oppo target him and he loses.

Liked MRJ, Dan Rioli 2nd half, Pickett solid, Ross great when on, Balta when not KPF, Hopper 2nd half. Prestia was good and then meh. Taranto good except for some diabolical kicks. Seth Campbell :rainbow:

umpires did a solid job. Worth about 3 or 4 goals. The one where the Suns were 1m out of bounds and then Grimes was tackled without the ball resulting in a Suns goal was mint. Grimes giving a small push and the Suns guy falling over and getting a free was lovely. Solid work that ump. Broad deliberate stepping out for a point was interesting. Well thought through and I am confident that this will be standard from here on in in 2024.

Overall that first hour by us was incredibly bad. Total garbage. third quarter was desperate slick and good. last meh.

Kozi and Balta aren't KPFs right now. Balta couldn't take a mark in forward 50, but good 80m out. Without Lynch our forward line is 1/2 arsed. That worries me.
