we stole it first, now nobody else can kinda sitch
Wasn't his name always just Taz? I don't remember my tazos having Tasmanian Devil on them. Also they've got Bugs Bunny, do they have a copyright on bugs and bunnies?

In Space Jam he is introduced on court as The Tasmanian Devil
I'm guessing they add that little descriptor because no one would know what sort of animal he is being literally a head with arms and legs coming out of it. Dunno how you can copyright that...

I'm behind with my homework, so please help me here.

How the hell did a company get to own the name of an animal? Are there any other examples of this?

Well not animals that I can think of, but if you make Ugg boots you cannot call them that because a US company apparently owns that name. To my mind that is not a brand but the type of boots they are. Not according to the courts though it seems.

To my mind Warner Bros shouldn’t have been able to copyright Tasmanian Devil or Tassie Devil because it’s an Australian animal and it doesn’t belong to them in any way. What next, are they going to copyright Koala and Kangaroo?

Kornes is at it again. This time it is just plain and simple disrespect for TT And the club needs to call this loser out for this. This is too far even for that idiot.

He's a troll. Nothing more.

with the name Tassie Devils, using it is not the actual problem, its using the name to make a commercial profit thats the problem.

it when the name is used to make money, not just using the name itself.

not that I disagree about the ridiculousness of trying to stop others using "tasmanian devil" but just checked some tazos and...

There’s an article in the NYTimes on it. It seems that the only real issue is the cartoon image of the Tassie Devil copyrighted by WB. It makes no sense at all to have an animal name copyright.
I see no issue here as long as TAS don’t use that cartoon character as an image.
Warner doesn’t have a strong position here at all imo. Rayzorwire

Yeah, I can't see anything in it without using the actual cartoon character closely in some way.

Of course, there is always the possibility that the AFL legal department get bluffed into making a deal to avoid the costs of going to court over it, but I wouldn't have thought so.
