Demons are imploding but Gazza Lyon keeps making excuses … ‘where’s the proof’ of behavioural issues or culture problems he says ….

It’s not hard to decipher :

1. The board has concerns about Goodwin’s behaviour to the extent they begin planning a transition to a new coach… not normal.

2. The respected club doctor raises concerns about off-field behaviour and within weeks is unceremoniously dismissed. He is later paid an out of court settlement for unfair dismissal… not normal.

3. The long-time and much respected President, who was driving standards and wanting to put in place measures to better manage off-field problems that may exist, is unceremoniously dismissed without discussion or warning … not normal.

4. Said President is so incensed at his treatment he is willing to take legal action for defamation against board members of the day…. not normal.

5. Two years after Bartlett and the club doctor were raising issues around off-field behaviour, illicit drug use and cultural problems before being kicked out, Oliver is clearly in the depths of serious ‘health’ concerns. As is Joel Smith, having taken drugs just days out from the game.

So Lyon is correct to say there is currently no hard ‘proof’ Goodwin has off-field problems. But you’d need to be seriously naive in the extreme to suggest there’s no basis to the off-field problems besieging the Melbourne football club. Yes, they won a flag in 2021. If they were in better shape
Off-field they’d probably be celebrating a three-peat right now.

Bartlett has been vindicated and it’s now very clear individuals out themselves ahead of the club early in 2021. This all looked justified when they won the flag … but now … not so much.
