It is unders. Medium stoppers are fairly easy to draft and trade for though. They arent kp players or dangerous forwards. Unless you are an elite attacking / balanced medium defender clubs dont trade top picks to land them.

If the Lions want to land Allen, a top line KP forward at 25 as a free agent costing no draft capital then something needs to done to balance that out.

And I am aware the AFL doesnt like that and it is against the rules but it happens.
Starc probably isn't far off that elite attacking defender you mention. He reads the play so well and offers so much more then just being able to stop the likes of rankine, greene and papley.

I don't know how it pans out tho. As I do believe starc is on his way to West Coast.

Dont forget that bringing in an FA will also impact the compensation you get for losing an FA.

In this instance, going with your band 1 return for OA, bringing Starchevich in as an FA would change the compo down to an end of round selection!
Yep. I was living in a world where starc wasn't a free agent. That'll be interesting what happens with compo as both compos would be hurt by each acquisition??

Has anyone pointed out the stupidity that the premiers are outbidding the worst team in the competition in the last 3 years for one of its players

Salary cap working wonders for equalisation that's for sure
if you want to nudge allen out the door for band 1 compo thats a valid list management decision

I think WC are expecting Allen to leave money on the table to make up for being paid to watch so much over the last few years.

Oscar Allen was at his best when he was playing behind Kennedy and Darling, floating in off the side manned up by a medium defender and clunking the mark.

Watching him very close against Collingwood a long time ago now, that was perfect for him.
He was equal 5th in the Coleman just 2 seasons ago...

Aware of that.

That is why the Eagles trade a F2nd for him. Which is unders.

Because band 1 FA compo is somewhat unders to let Allen walk for free to a contender and recent premier.

And 1/10 as good
Yes but it gives you a better fit as a ruck + forward. You also get to keep 4 mill in the bank too. This Lions list has 5-10 years at the top. Dumping all your eggs in the injury prone basket of Allen is just a dumb move. Stopgap with Bailey Williams and then make moves for more suited players too.

Id rather say Tom Lynch AND Bailey Williams as opposed to just Oscar Allen.

Allen is worth more than that on the open market though, that may factor into WCE's thinking.
Only Richmond could match West Coast in cap space too.

Lions just lost Daniher who retired early and under contract.

How much did he retiring early free up?

Enough to land Allen is a fair assumption isn't it?

Approx $1m

How many more years was that Daniher contract running BTW?

If Starcevich is involved in some form of exchange that's $650k freed up as well.

Lockie Neale and Zorko will finish up as well in the next year or two.

1.

Doubt Neale retires until 2027 at the earliest barring something extraordinary happening.

I think Zorko will retire at the end of next season, again unless someone extraordinary happens this season.

Where'd you get out bidding from?

There's 0 chance Lions have more cap space than WC - West Coast are able to offer more if the want to...

i dont think allen is worth more than a top 5 pick personally.

daniher had more runs on the board and essendon let him walk for pick 7 iirc.
