In your opinion what are they doing that's catching everyone out?

What can we learn from them?

It would be quite interesting if the Hawks did go all the way one season after us given we approached Mitchell originally before hiring Fly.

While we won the flag with one of the oldest sides on record and intend to go in even older next season by the looks of it, Mitchell took the other approach, moved on experience to give greater opportunity across his first 2 years and might now reap the rewards earlier than anticipated in year 3.

We obviously already have the Premiership under Fly that Mitchell is seeking so we have little to complain about, but the age average of the Hawthorn side last weekend was close to 2 and half years younger than our own so they look better placed for a sustained run at the flag right now.
I've only seen them on telly so limited understanding of the whole picture.

But I think that they're taking on and drawing tackle pressure with their support runners out wider. They're sprinting at tacklers, breaking a lot and drawing extra tacklers to create space for blokes out wider in the clear.

Joe plays better when he misses 10 goals. Loosens him up.
At one stage last night, he shanked a set shot from about 30m out, then shortly thereafter, snapped a goal from outside 50.
I said to my son, "That's typical Joe Daniher!".

I wonder how motivated the Saints will be to win the game?

A victory should see them move from pick 5 (plus 6 if Battle leaves) in the draft to pick 7 (plus pick 8).
Ross has decent motivation .. Carlton didn't hand him the coaching job on a silver platter based purely on the strength of his dated Cee-Vee and expected him to sit through an interview ..the sheer humanity.

Ah yes. I forgot about that.

I feel much more confident about Ross wanting to seek revenge today & showcasing his coaching prowess.

Go Sainters.

the dry grounds in Sept will suit their run 'n gun style

albeit the heat around the ball & pressure goes up a coupla notches in finals so, in theory, less space & outside ball

if you give them a spare they will cut you open with their run; if you play zone they'll likely cut you open & through-you with their run .. GWS closest IMV to being able to match their run.

Other teams will need to make it a contested slog. Their KPDs also gettable
