Noticed today, interstate sides have won the flag only every 6 years since 2006 when West coast won.

Then we had Geelong, Hawthorn, Geelong, Collingwood , Geelong

Then 2012 Sydney

Then Hawthorn 3 peat, Dogs, Richmond

Then 2018 West Coast

Then Richmond b2b, Melbourne, Geelong and Collingwood

Then 2024 Brisbane

So yeah, that’s a long time now we’ve been on this cycle!

Incidentally, before this cycle started, we had 2001-2006 only interstate sides.

We finish 8th with a win against Freo.
Play Brisbane first week at the Gabba in an elimination final.

Could have been eliminated week one but because they got to play the Carlton witches hats, they’re premiers.

Put us in the 8 and anything could have happened! One thing that probably wouldn't have happened however, would be Sydney winning a Grand Final.

Unlike official records, I count Fitzroy's 8 premierships into Brisbane Lions tally.

Number of Premierships when tied, is then sorted by number of Runner Ups. More runner ups ranks higher, so as far as I am concerned, we are the most successful club at 16 premierships and 27 runners up.

Also worth noting, St Kilda by far the worst at 12.5% success rate of winning Grand Finals, followed by Sydney at 26.3%. We are third worst at 35.6% but due to so many appearances, still have won equal most premierships so miles ahead.

Interesting that apart from Richmond, no team that lost the QF went on to win the flag, and in that year both participants made the Gf through that path. And 2020 was an outlier anyway due to the massive fixture upheavals from Covid, as was 2021 to a lesser extent.
