Might put in a vote for Daisy.

Certainly weight for age he is ( IMO) and probably overall as well.

Interesting question though smiddaz.

I reckon also that our tackling dropped off significantly in 2011 compared to 2010, though maybe that relates a bit to the slightly different gameplans.

So many more tackles seemed to 'stick' in 2010.

Taz is good. Ball does lots because he's right in the thick of it so often, but he certainly doesn't miss many.
Tooves pretty good too.

Goldsack for closing speed.

Thomas for aggression and endeavour.

Sidebottom for technique and consistent numbers every game.

Cloke and Dawes if they manage to get one paw on the opposition, they aren't getting away.

Great point - Cloke is the best tackling key position player I have seen. Takes real pride in his tackling.

Ball (6.9 per game) and Pendles (6.0 per game) were on average our best tacklers last year from a purely statistical standpoint.

But mids are always going to dominate those stats.

My list of best tacklers at the club at the moment;

Ball
Maxwell
Wellingham
Toovey
Sidebottom
Pendles

Cloke
Dawes

My outright winner, on effort, effectiveness and total is Luke Ball.:thumbsu:

It depends what's being asked. As TRS said Jolly is our best if you go by sticking tackles he runs at about 85% which is around the top of the tree league wide. However I think the most important tackle in today's game is the F50 tackle of which Blair is the best at our club.

Ignoring stats and who is best. Players I would least like to be tackled by.
* Cloke (puts some hurt on)
* Ball
* Maxwell
Cloke and Maxwell just look like they want to hurt people and Ball is...well just old fashioned tough. So I guess it depends how you define "best".

Tackles, as with most 'defensive' stats are hard to actually measure.

The simple numbers dont really indicate anything, apart from the fact that those players are in congestion more often than others.

Tackles stuck, the stats Jolly leads is a step in the right direction...

The defensive acts like tackles, spoils etc really just interested in the extraordinary acts....ie it is about special acts that help defend or stop a play...ie Maxwell's desperate lunge to touch the ball in the GF.

In terms of tackles, IMO, you are really interested in tackles that create turn overs or win the ball back.....the overwhelming majority of tackles are from contested pack situations where it is basically players simply doing there job..there is no special effort to chase and defend, and they dont retrieve the ball.

In saying all that id back L.Ball in everyday of the week.

If you were to base it on numbers in recent years it would be.

Defense = Toovey
Midfield = Ball
Forward = Macaffer

On technique i'd pick Thomas, who also gets good numbers.

Thomas and Ball would probably be our best tacklers.

Jolly is also pretty busy and rarely lets them slip. He has the second best effective tackle percentage in the league behind Patrick McGinnity of WC.

Cloke and Dawes are both great tacklers for big guys, in fact they're actually a lot better than some of our smaller forwards. Unlike other big forwards like Franklin who are really sloppy tacklers the technique of our big guys is excellent and they love exerting their physical presence which is what you want in a forward.

Daisy is brilliant at chasing down an opponent, goes all out, so does Goldsack for that matter.

Luke Ball and Pendles are brilliant around the stoppages with their tackling.

Our team is filled with good tacklers, it's what made us such a good side to begin with in my view. Some of that was lost last year as we started to believe our hype and didn't do the basics.

Best tackler ball

Best ever Tackle? Dale is in the dying seconds of the prelim. **** yeah!!
Maxwell's tackle on Max Rooke was pretty good! I still think the best tackle I've seen was by Anthony Rocca against the Bulldogs (I think it was Kretiuk) where he flattened him so hard the trainers had to go out to him! Rocca got the free kick for holding the ball too IIRC!

Best tackle I have seen would be N.Buckley's pollaxing of S.Camporeale. It was in either 02/03 at the G, back in the days when Campo and Holland would be constantly at it.

Think Campo got Dutchy with a cheap sh0t early in the piece, and in the 2nd quarter Bucks absolutely burried him in a fair tackle. It was brilliant.

Johno's finger tip tackle of Burgoyne in the 02 QF perhaps another that should rate in any best tackle conversations!
