OP was right. Can’t afford to draft badly into and through a rebuild. We should have another 3 or 4 a graders.
Easily, we had the picks, we just made extremely poor choices. That superdraft, Sholl is arguably our best player, Jones is just a dumb footballer, McHenry useless and Hamill can’t get a run at it.

I'm not that pissed off by the Gallucci pick because I could at least understand the traits they were looking for and though it was a bad pick, it's not earth shattering for a team at the top of the ladder to get a dud. In a sense that's the system working as intended.

Fogarty is a tick. It took longer than it should have because we're bad at developing players.

McAsey was a genuine bust who would have failed at any club. One of the worst picks in the club's history.

Jones and McHenry also busts. Both recruited to play midfield. One is a failed small forward, the other a failed small defender. Wasted a shitload of important game time persisting with these guys. I think you could mount an argument these were more damaging than McAsey. At least Fisher was shit enough to not get selected and didn't hold up someone elses development.

With Thilthorpe and Cook, I'm leaning towards poor development, not lack of talent. Pedlar's recent form was leaning towards a bust but he's had injuries.

The rebuild turned left

I dont think our list is that bad - or I dont know how bad our list is

We expect the draftees to be perfect before we play them for 1 or 2 games

Thats not development thats stifling

How many players '' have gone backward since we drafted them '' how many times do we read that

Its not the players fault entirely

How Nicks and co continually blame the players and get away with it is crazy. Good coaches take on board that the players are not playing their game plan - but we continue the plan and blame the players but dont drop the players

Nicks has 2 months to blow the culture up but I fear its too late

I hate Cy Walsh

We exceeded last year thanks to Tex having a super year and scoring at will. This year he’s been awful and we haven’t fired a shot. Not sure if it’s just Nick as the whole coaching group looks poor and not many players have developed. Surely we spend more money on development coaches in a rebuild to help the players, really not many have improved to AFL levels.
Only hope is we can grasp a gun midfielder this year and somehow get Sharp the year after, that’d be 2 guns in 2 years and become a force.

Think the whole club is poor from Olsen unable to get Thebarton done quick, instead of delay after delay. Our recruiting and development hasent worked well and then the coaching has been confusing. The selection as well of players doesn’t make sense, picking under performing senior players and not giving the younger guys an opportunity this year. Nicks is just too nice and will never succeed, need a ruthless streak to make it in the AFL, which he is sadly lacking

We’re 4-1-7

That’s not where you want to be 5 years in. With massive questions over the list and holes to be filled
And this years draft/period feels like a fork in the road. They’ll burn draft capital for mediocre trades attempting to wall paper over the cracks, when we really need a cleanout and recruitment of elite talent throughout the entire the club.

There is a game plan?

Durdin, Howard, Jones, Frampton, Pearce, Andrew, Andrews, McKay, Reid, Moore, Sam De Koning plays forward & back
So not that many and a few of those aren't even AFL quality players let alone AFL quality KPD. Most KPD are 195cm so I don't see any issue with our backline being "short".

If we're still built entirely around Tex, with Crouch & Laird the centrepiece of the midfield, with ROB, Keays, Smith, Murphy in the leadership group, and a first round mid like Pedlar has not been given a single game in the midfield in four years... was it even a rebuild?

Or did we just not win many games for a while?

From 2020. Nothing has changed at our club. Out of form and injured seniors push through because continuity and experience is critical when finals are on the horizon. Out of form and injured seniors push through because we're rebuilding and continuity and experience is critical to guide the kids. We retrofit decisions to match hard coded philosophies regardless of the phase we're in.

Disagree, I think the next senior coach has something to work with given the extent of the rebuild Nicks had to do during a global pandemic. He can actually coached, the problem is he has proven to be very stubborn in his thinking and hasn't changed, hence he continue to make the same obvious mistake over and over again so there's no way he will change in his thinking.

The next senior coach will just bring the same philosophies as Nix.
