I'm not sure we've really gone for needs aside from Neale-Bullen. Seems we've gone for players we like and they do look handy

I wouldn't have put half back and midfield depth high up on our needs list.

Obviously an elite mid to join Dawson, Rankine and Soligo in the midfield rotations would number 1, followed by a genuine small forward and ruck. We didn't tick any of those boxes really.

Neale Bullen fills half of a need and brings experience to an inexperienced forward line. That actually looks targeted in terms of needs.
Cumming is a massive need with Smith being ready for the retirement home.

Gives us that penetrating kick coming out of the backlines that we missed this year.

Our backs that can be used offensively are, Hinge, Michalaney, Worrell and Nankervis. You could argue Curtin and Ryan could be in that mix as well. Then there's Milera of he can get fit again.

Smith has been redundant for a while now. This position is not a need relative to the rest of our squad.

Yeah, can't agree on this.
Defenders with quality offensive capability: Hinge, Michalaney, Nankervis, Worrell (Curtin, Ryan and Milera)

Midfield depth (starters should be Dawson, Soligo and Rankine): Crouch, Laird, Berry, Taylor, Dowling, Schoenberg.

Genuine quality goal kicking small forwards: Rankine (should be moved to midfield 75%), Rachele......

Existing ruck stocks: O'Brien, Strachan

Wow, quite astonishing even for some certain posters on this board that bringing in 3 experienced best 22 players from finals contending clubs is considered setting a ‘low bar’ for being happy with recruitment.

Improving your best 22 across all 3 areas of the ground in the same off season is what all clubs would hope for, but very rarely pull off. We already brought in two genuine stars in Dawson and Rankine within the last 3 off seasons too.

Or should clubs just blow their salary cap out to bring in someone like Oliver and miss out on other opportunities? Even Geelong can’t make this work going by the latest reports.

Smith wasn’t too bad in 2023.

And part of our poor movement was the lack of Milera and Smith this year.

No question Cumming helps improve us in that space

It is the best purple patch we’ve had since getting Jarman, Bond, Koster, James, Caven.

Lots of strike outs though, and we’ve reportedly gone hard. Gulden, Mcluggage, Hayward, NWM, Day, Redman, Chol (say what you like he’s better than Burgess). Im probably missing a few.

I guess jagging a gun with no SA ties would make me a believer.

All of the above have signed long term contracts with their team that draft them (excluding Chol) - and have we had a good go at getting an uncontracted NVM

Drafting a player who becomes central to their clubs direction is easily the biggest gold clubs have on talent.

It’s not like those targets chose to go to other clubs
