I couldn't agree more
Answerth had a great debut year and is lock in 18.
Starcevich & Bailey also
Witherden is the one for me who has to go as his defensive chops are still not up to scratch.
People have short memories and Witherden was found wanting in crucial contests in the finals last year especially the last one.
Still doesn't offer much more than a good kick.
One on one defensively specifically physical contests gets beat 8 out of 10 times.
Another average year without progression puts his retention under real scrutiny.

Not sure I agree with the Witherden comments. Maybe this time last year you had a very valid point about his defensive deficiencies, but I thought late in the year and in particular the GWS game outside of that last quarter blunder he had improved dramatically. Tonight he was Very good defensively and even chased down a bloke to get HTB. He's come a long way and looks locked into our best 22. Definitely didn't get beaten 8/10 times in the games you mentioned that's for sure.

I'm sorry but I strongly disagree.
No improvement when the heat is on.
I certainly wasn't illustrating this point in relation to today's game.

Fair enough. Will be an interesting year for Witho. While we don't agree on his defensive work, I think one thing is certain is that there is a lot of pressure on he and the other HBF guys to perform as there are several blokes who will be fighting tooth and nail for their spots.

Going to be a while before some fans can get over that Daniels goal in the GWS game.

Amazing that fans focus on Witho and not the Mumford throw that was missed. Personally I'd rather get annoyed over an umpires call than be bitter at a player who'd have no doubt felt like complete shit. I think we needn't look further than Withos physique this year compared to last to see how hard he worked to improve this off season.

Poor old Witho.

Still being scapegoated by many for that most unfortunate SF loss to GWS.

If it wasn't for the most blatant throw of the season AND a brilliant finish by the GWS player (whose name escapes me), Witherden's "blunder" would never even have got a mention in the wash up of that game.

From where I was sitting, Witho was NEVER EVER any chance of running down that guy. You can't expect a player of limited natural pace to suddenly grow a leg and chase down a lighting fast opponent who has got meters start on him mainly because the umpire was blindsided.

And how about our ludicrously wasteful forward 50 entries in that last quarter when just one....ONE bloody decent delivery to our forwards would have sealed a PF spot.

Davis and his mate Himmelberg were taking the piss out of us with their intercept marking in that last quarter.

Let's blame total lack of team composure rather than shit canning one individual.

Curious Nunez, who you picking out Dev Robertson or Ely Smith? If there’s one spot available and it’s between the two of them.

On Marsh form it'd have to be Dev. Smith unfortunately didn't take his chance against Port and I feel Dev did. I struggle to see either playing round 1 though.

Gardiner Adams Payne
Starcevich Rich Answerth
Bailey mccluggage robinson
Martin J Lyons Neale
Andrews Rayner Hipwood
Zorko McStay Cameron
Witherden Mccarthy j Berry Robertson

Imo based on practice match showing Payne needs to come in and we need Harris to move forward to join Hipwood and Mcstay as another tall target. Starcevich has better hands better speed better pressure and is part of the future than Birchall and can overlap run into the fwd 50 like Nick Haynes is doing for GWS this year and kick goals. Omac had 5 touches tonight. McStay can ruck relief.

I call it as I see it mate.
Finals games spotlight deficiencies and those that aren't up to it.
Both Robertson and Starcevich are in front of Witho in the pecking order in my estimations.
We can't all be sheep and go along with the flock right?
Your bottom few players impact you greatly in big games.

Which defiencies of Witherden were hightlighted in that final aside from that mark?

Funny you should say that.

Someone who knows a bit about the game asked me does he wear contacts or not because the way he goes for the ball sometimes indicates he has a problem picking the trajectory up. And seems to lunge at it at the last moment.

Probably ridiculous but there's something not quite right.
He also gets smothered quite a bit trying to kick inside 50.

Yep. Don't think we need another midfielder in the 22 now with the younger brigade stepping up their midfield minutes. Think Starc deserves that last spot as a bit of a utility.

By all means, call it as you see it and so will I - I reckon your Witho bashing is way over the top.

Robertson is a midfielder and Starcevich based on last night is playing wing and forward. So they’re on different pecking orders to Witho at half back.

Had a bit of a listen to fages post game comments and it sounds more unlikely than likely that Dev will debut in round 1. Sounded like they just wanted to see how he went in the A grade comp, reckon they'll be looking to use that to plan his development and opportunities for the year. It's a shame, I thought he did really well

Answorth Andrews Gardiner
Birch. Adams. Rich
Robinson Lyons Bailey
Zorko. Hippy Rayner
McCarthy Mcstay Cameron

Martin , Neale , clugga

Berry , big o, starce , ( one of witherdon /ah chee )

birch will get better more games he gets not hear to play reserves . Can’t see them moving away from big considering it worked last year . I’m not soled in it juts don’t think they will move to far from it .
Hey
bailey was electric yesterday and is versatileand Starce I thought also very good . Would like another midfielder in there perhaps that’s when big o misses out and Mcstay does some second Ruck depending on conditions.

Big O is crucial to our structure imo and as far as I can tell he's getting better all the time.

Once he works out that all he has to do is get in front it'll lift his game another notch. Stef can't ruck the whole game all the time so I don't see who else could take on ruck duties when Stef's off the ground.

Emg: Ah Chee Mathieson Skinner

Gonna go out on a limb and say Dev gets a round 1 berth though more likely Ah Chee will be named.

If we're going on form then Ah Chee misses out, but can't help but wonder if we're going to give him round 1 over Answorh to secure his spot. Personally I'd rather Answorh gets the job and plays tight on Breust, but who knows what we'll do. Can't wait for round 1 to find out!

Just listened to ***'s presser from yesterday and going by it Birch is a certainty and Deven is a maybe.

I'll be surprised if anybody who didn't play yesterday gets selected for round 1.

Just realised my team doesn't have Answerth. Can't believe I forgot him. Definite best 22.

Answerth is a lock. One of the first names down on the sheet (maybe just behind Charlie)
