It's less "the Dogs are going well" and much more "Carlton and St Kilda are going just as bad with a worse fixture"How are the media predicting us to get into finals?
I cannot see us beating GWS.
Wonder how John Schultz feels about Herb not being acknowledged and how it might pan out for him. He's there at the players race week in and week out and he watches the whole game standing there. These media teams employed at the club now have no feel for what supporter actually want or appreciate. Too busy with slow-mo montages and other social media rubbish that is non-value add.
Club history is what binds the supporters to the club. Without that you have nothing and people will see it as nothing but a entertainment entity that is only worth following when they are winning.
I'm repeating myself but nothing has changed, the club media has been non existent since 2017 (about the time they shut off external media). Press conferences after the game and Bevos Brief are perfect examples. Done because its an obligation. The media team offer no info, just trash they think appeals to young supporters. I'm not sure they even achieve that. How the loss of a premiership player is missed is appalling. Only at the Bulldogs. Surprised the past players group didn't highlight it.

That’s the first time I’ve ever seen that!Coaches votes
10 Rory Lobb (FRE)
8 Caleb Serong (FRE)
6 Josh Dunkley (WB)
4 Luke Ryan (FRE)
2 Jordan Clark (FRE)
Both coaches would have to have given the exact same votes right? Impressive
So there is collusion? Typical, AFL is corrupt to the core!Coaches votes

Didn’t your mob have instructions to guard space at the Battle of Hastings? (You know, before the Chinese sub thing) And weren’t they told to retreat an extra 5 yards from the Norman archers?Drafted as mids :
Smith , Libber , Dunks , Bont , Macrae , West , Garcia , Daniel , Trelaor , McNeil
& Vander ?
Plug them in anywhere you can !
Then add a non dominant tap ruckman and very suspect KDP backline .
There you have it , an unbalanced footy team .
Then tell them all to guard grass patches and watch teams take uncontested marks all around the ground until inevitably they have a shot at goal.
We have a very talented core bunch of players , but here we are !

So a (self-professed) King thinks there is fault with the actions of an autocratic (almost regal- or dictator-like) coach?Drafted as mids :

A lot here seem to think he's a turkey. If that's the case and he's as left field a turkey as some of his selections, perhaps he'll vote for an early Christmas. So a (self-professed) King thinks there is fault with the actions of an autocratic (almost regal- or dictator-like) coach?
Are you suggesting perhaps a socialist-type collective of coaching, possibly even formed from the august members of this BF board, thereby potentially threatening your own position and authority in the process?! What a magnanimous King of the people you are! (Or will that just be Harold in the brave new world I believe you are proposing if I read between the lines?)

And the the BF peasants are revolting
In his defence, he wasn't expecting the Normans to come out so hard!Weren’t you the coach?
think back to this
And how the team has performed this year.
Different players - yes, by majority, more of a balance in 16 IMO
Different assistants - yes, better IMO in 2016
Hunger to win - yes, in 2016
Just watched the game for the first time. I missed watching it live and read most of the comments on this forum and watched all the analysis shows. Just a few thoughts.
Obviously the defensive strategy is deplorable and honestly I can’t believe that the coaching group actually believe that this is the way to play football in 2022. So many times our players were just standing still guarding grass and a Freo player on the move would just slip in behind them and move into a small vacant place un marked because our players were too busy manning their piece of grass. No player was really guarding a man. This allowed them to easily move the ball downfield with little pressure and the manning up inside their 50 was at times inept. The time when Cordy decided to let Lobb lead because he thought he better man the grass rather than stay with his man on the lead was just terrible, probably the single worst defensive act of the season.
However we also gave up just as many goals from bad disposal, just terrible clangers that let them in when we should have been out. This was especially the case in the first quarter. Some very poor umpiring decisions. Missed high fend off by Darcy on Treloar, god knows how many missed holding the ball/incorrect disposal decisions. The one where West tackled a Freo player who just dropped it cold only for Bont to get it, get tackled and have the decision paid against him straight after was shocking. So our defence wasn’t the only thing that was a problem.
Finally also the manning the mark was a big issue in the game again. Freo man the mark and were always in a position to pressure. An example was how Bailey Dale struggled to find a target out of defensive 50 and because Freo were manning the mark when the umpire called play on he was on him in a second and caused a dump kick. We never put on any pressure, back off and Freo were left to just pick off an easy short kick. The time when Cordy decided to just leave Lobb to lead again, no one was manning the mark so it meant Freo player didn’t have to even go back off the mark before kicking it. He could just wait for Lobb to lead and with no pressure, just place on his chest. It puts our defenders under pressure because the ball handler doesn’t have to go back before kicking it, doesn’t have to at least try and kick over a man, he can drill a quick low pass into the 50 which is hard to stop for the defence. It’s a really really dumb strategy and it’s been killing us all season. We don’t have the defenders that Collingwood do to make it work and we guard space rather than a man so there are holes everywhere for players to drop into if they are smart and can get a quick short kick.
Again also we paid a 50m penalty that lead directly to a goal by not manning the mark, Libba doesn’t hear the umpire say stand, tries get outside 5 in line with the coaching direction, gives a 50 away, then when Darcy is running down the field to just outside their 50m line, again no one mans the mark to make that kick inside 50 more difficult, we just pull back and let him chip an easy pass to Walters while Treloar is left in no man’s land. It’s too easy. And if we just man the mark properly none of it would happen. We have to change our mindset to apply pressure and it starts with manning the mark. Actually play defence.
Liam Jones will make zero difference to this defence if we continue playing the same way. He got plenty of interceptions at Carlton but they were terrible defensively because of their coaching strategy. We have to change the whole defensive strategy otherwise we are going nowhere.
Lastly, we have to work harder defensively as well. Too many times we were running behind the Freo players allowing them to get the jump on us first rather than actually pushing hard. Watch the way Collingwood applied pressure on Friday night. We are nowhere near that level of effort and cohesion to pressure the ball. We just drift around the ground guarding space. It’s too late for this season but that has to change for next year, and I would turn over the entire assistant coaching panel. The club aren’t getting rid of Bevo, but put some better coaches with decent strategic nouse around him, especially defensively.
It was hard to watch this game, especially the second quarter. But I agree with those who say it summed up our season pretty much. Plenty of good analysis now on what we are doing wrong. Listening to David King on the Monday means test on SEN, he is spot on, absolutely spot on. Bevo hates criticism though and is a stubborn prick so I’m not sure if he will listen. But it’s clear as day so surely someone in the club has to be strong enough to point it out. The media can all see it, it’s a broken system and it must be changed.
I did like the debut of Sam Darcy, disposal let him down early a few times due to nerves and somehow he ended up in Frederick a few times which was not good, but he will be really good one day. Ed Richards was great again, Libba and Dunks had a crack as usual. Not much else positive out of that game.
So play him in his rightful position as Premiership CHF Zaine Cordy - it's not Rocket Eade science.....Cordy often loses his forward. He plays too loose.. Just crazy..
Still not out of our misery …!
