Outlandish draft predictions

I'm genuinely not. I really rate him, but I know others don't. As LF said yesterday, he was one of only two players tagged by W.A at the champs.

Yep, people would be well advised to join the Boak bandwaggon while they can. He had a terrible year with injuries (only 10 of 20 games). When he did play he was almost always coming back from injury, or getting hurt. I doubt he played two games in a row and doubt he played even one game at full fitness.

In just one quarter against Oakleigh in the prelim he showed what he can do to opposition teams.

Everyone is happy to forgive Selwood his injuries and not dropping him down the draft order. I think they would be well advised to forgive Boak his injury riddled year too.

1. Adelaide to pick up Josh Willoughby (not really outlandish, but widely ignored on this board).
2. Only 5 Queenslanders taken in the ND, and only one of them by Brisbane (and yes, I am welching by failing to nominate which 5 and which one).
3. Carl Peterson from WA to Sydney (again, more underpublicised than outlandish).
4. Malcolm Lynch to get drafted!

Lastly, not an outlandish prediction but more of a type matching: Port Adelaide will want Nathan Djerkurra (without guessing which pick he'll go, although it seems like I'm probably saying #23 or #39).

Certainly be some clubs very tempted. He has electric pace, was a one man band for NSW at times last season. Clever, classy, exciting. But soooo light. I mean his weight doubles when he puts his jumper on. I think the AFL would chew him up and spit him out.

Hope he gets picked up, would love to see him in action. Everyone looking for the next Aaron Davey in the form of Alwyn might be looking in the wrong spot ... Mal Lynch might be the one.

Gary Moss undrafted
Of all your possible scenarios I hope this one is wrong. To me he is one of those almost old fashioned footballers and I hate to think there still isn't a place for his type in the AFL.

FWIW here are some thoughts I penned on him, in another thread 3 weeks ago;

There's nothing flash about him; he's not fast, his disposal skills, particularly on the left are good, but he's not a particularly long kick, however he just keeps getting the ball, particularly in a contested situation. He captained WA at the carnival and although injured and unable to play on the AIS tour of Ireland he was named 'best teammate'; indicative of his leadership ability. My view is that Moss is a guy who will just keep stepping up at AFL level

Yep, despite being 'old-school' I'm prepared to say Moss will become a wonderful AFL midfielder. Terrific work-ethic and leadership skills will appeal.

Ok. I'll claim ignorance. Who is Lynch? Does he play a similar role to Davey?

Tiny kid who played in the 2005 carnival for NSW. I believe he goes to Riverview (one of the top private schools in Sydney) and he was a member of the group of indigenous young players who toured South Africa earlier this year.

Don't think he played in the 2006 U18 carnival - guess he was probably injured.

He must be a player that the Swans would at least think about for their rookie list, assuming he doesn't get drafted. The prospect of him and Simon Phillips running around together in the ACTAFL is an interesting one.

Good call, they are very similar, although Lynch would be quicker. Different party tricks as well, Phillips loves the high mark (all 173cm of him) whereas Lynch loves the look away handball.

Sounds like someone the doggies will pick up - fast, light running player, obscure background etc

Bulldogs to pick a midfielder with pick 11.

That wouldn't surprise. Eade and Clayton have stated that they will take the best available. If the best available is a midfielder they'll pick him. Have a feeling that this year, Gibbs aside, the top 10 will go mainly tall. Why? Big guys are harder to find and develop, so big guys with skill are gold and tend to have better trade value later anyway. Given the doggies have pick 11, if the top 10 is mostly tall it stands to reason that the doggies will take a mid. Also, Clayton tends to be have the opinion that stand out players aside, you can't really tell with a tall until they have stacked on some weight and grown into their frame. Would not surprise to see the doggies go small with pick 11

Hear Hear !!

The debate between athletes and footballers must not be allowed to swing totally to "athletes" or the game will suffer.
