Wasn't sure where to put this, so figured I'd create a new thread.
As I'm sure everyone has heard, the SACA are pushing to host the Cricket final at the Adelaide Oval. This would be during the week between a Port game and our home game against North.
Cricket aside (seems silly to host at AO when they will likely have plenty of room to spare to Rolton oval for the crowd), this raises huge concerns for us.
Firstly, they will need to dig up the centre square and bring in a drop in pitch. Then take out the pitch and replace it again. That leaves a lot of damage in the centre and around the ground. It opens up huge possibilities for the grass etc.. to be moving during the game and brings enormous injury risks.
Then there is the damage to the ground from the machinery used to bring the pitch in.
If you watch this video you can see the path that the machine comes in on. It leaves a damaged surface behind.

THEN, we will also have the issue of the grass being cut significantly shorter for the cricket. To me it raises the risk of other injuries (more likely concussions on heads hitting the ground, foot injuries, stress fractures etc...) There is a reason we still play on longer grass.
As good as it is for cricket in SA, as a club we should be very loudly (behind closed doors) making it clear we don't want this. We should not be putting out players at greater risk of injuries to appease cricket.
Thoughts?
