Ovens and King Football League 2006-2010

I think talking up a GF appearance in a league we don't know much about is a little ambitious. I am sure Swanpool have improved on last year but the O and K is a different ball game.

At Doon we are a little more realistic and despite someones previous suggestion we are not "assuming" we can make top 3. I think at this stage we plan to be competitive and of course we hope we can make the top 8 however going into a new league its very hard to judge where we are at until we play everyone.

Very exciting times at the moment, after playing the same four teams for the last five years it will be great to go into a comp with a total of 14 teams. See some new towns, meet some good blokes and hopefully see some very good footballers.

We start with Goorambat on Sunday which is always a good hit out so looking forward to that.

Thanks mate, Yeah no offense to the other BDFL teams as they are great guys but it will be nice to play some different teams for a change. It will be very interesting to see how the four new teams go and i am tipping there will be some floggings at the hands of the O+K clubs but some surprises also. The Doon boys are all looking forward to the challenge ahead and i can assure you we will all be in your club rooms after the games to have a can or two and meet some of the players from opposition clubs. We really need to make sure it doesn't turn into O+K originals Vs BDFL clubs as that can only be bad for the league. With 14 teams the O+K has a real opportunity to build on it's reputation as one of the best country leagues in VIC.

This is something we (Tarrawingee) make sure we do after every away game, it's good to mix with the opposition after the game and talk crap over a few drinks. Most of the clubs put in an effort these days but there are still a couple that head off straight after the game which can be disappointing. Good to see you guys have the right attitude.

You make a good point regarding the original O&K sides vs the BDFL clubs. Obviously no one wants this and hopefully now that the new sides are in, they are here to stay. It might be a little tough in the first year or so for a couple of them, but hopefully they can slowly work their way up in a similar way to what Benalla have done. It would be really disappointing if, as was suggested in the Wang Chronicle a while back, the league drops back to 12 or 10 sides in the next few years.

I was speaking to Grant the other weekend (admittedly after quite a few frothies at the Council club) and he was doubtful that he would be playing much in the early rounds. Didn't give me a reason other than he was not to keen for it yet. How can you not be keen its round 1!!! lets hope Lucien Dean-johns decides to have this weekoff, the slippery little bugger can play a bit!

Im not sure who shane moore is bud but with the talent we have in our midfield im pretty sure we wont need to worry too much about that.
Also we have one the most powerful full forwards in the game that rarely misses infront..

paul Arandt?
22 goals in 16 games, hardly a world record, came second in avenals BnF last year so obviously can play but i wouldn't think he would be classed as one of the most powerful full forwards with those stats.

Spoke to Tatong's coach last week and he said they were hoping Welshy would sign after the carnival. I don't think Moyhu would be shattered if he left anyway, he isn't really a bloke that you want around your footy club.

Interesting to see a lot of the new sides only with eighteen players gunna be a lot of un happy people come saturday to find out that only sixteen players will be played.
