Huge recruiting coup for Milawa with Anthony 'Knackers' McGuire and Tim Schuermann signing over the weekend. Knackers will be a class above in the O&K and I would almost say an early early favourite for the Baker Medal. Tim will outruck anyone in the comp and showed huge improvement in his around the ground work and fitness last season. Both these boys, along with Mick Newton at FF and the strong core of existing players I reckon will almost see the Dees there on that Final day. Also talk of two more O&M players in the wings to be heading out. Anyone able to shed any light on who this may be?
If this is 100% true it certainly does put milawa right up their for contention in 08

Hey Darcy why is Knackers and Timmy going do they both have the shits because not much 1st games last year or what good money??? both of them played rovers premiership didn't they?? i understand knackers might go cause not getting seniors games cause he should be but Timmy still got alot to work on if he thinks he can ruck in O&M seniors??? Or are they going becuase of Rob Carile and Joel Witte for mates reasons??

Couldn't tell ya the reasons Kage. Heard a rumour that Knackers wasn't enjoying his footy any more at Rovers but I dunno how true that is. Big Timmy is a bit puzzling because I believe he had the makings of a Snr O&M ruckman but with Jamie Bell's brilliant year and the signing of Karl Norman and improvement of Shane Gaston, he probably saw himself down on the pecking order and went chasing senior footy elsewhere. Good luck to them both I say as they are top blokes and Milawa should feel lucky to get players of such quality. Like I said, can't think of a player atm in the O&K who would be better than Knackers.

Ease up there Darc, both Tim and Knackers will be good for the Dees especially knackers but Jamie Bell had a solid year, i wouldn't say he was brilliant.

Hmm well considering he shouldered the Rovers ruck duties solo for most of the year, beat 2006 VFL ruckman of the year Warren Carlyle both times they played on each other and even played a game after being in hospital the night before, it say it was a fairly "brilliant" effort on Jamie's part. But once again, thats just my opinion.

Was Oliver's move to Tarra a surprise Darce. The premiership side has been plundered.

Just read about Scotty's move in the Chronicle. Doesn't really come as a surprise in the shadow of Knackers and Timmy moving. I think its a case of these boys wanting a more regular taste of Senior footy, regardless of the standard of footy. I think it was the three previous years of heartbreak and the chance to redeem that kept alot of these boys from moving on last season. Good hopes for the Rovers 2nds next year though with a good batch of 3rds boys making the step up.

rumours of a merge between two clubs out in the KV. anyone heard similar

Do you think that they (assuming KV & Moyhu) would merge? Struggling enough to consider now when both clubs are certainly not the bottom of the bunch based on recent years... Hell you'd think Blacks and Glenrowan would be the first to go based on performances!

Pretty successful netball at Moyhu too - think they'd make room for another finals playing team from KV?

I'd say its because of the juniors. Moyhu dont have enought kids to start 3rds, KV don't have enough to compete with 3rds (lucky to have 14 each week). League is pretty keen to have all teams running a junior team. Could be ressies too. Moyhu battled for numbers....

Whats the go with recruiting any major signings???? besides the rovers 2nds who have come out!!! Is Greta going to get anyone with their new coach or is he their more for a long term plan then short fix???

Smart move if it's true. Do it now while both clubs are in reasonable shape rather than trying to drag what's left of 2 clubs together further down the track.

It will be interesting to see where Greta go from here. Most of their Benalla recruits now gone I think they will have to give Col a couple of years to bring a few of their kids on and maybe buy in a couple of hired guns to keep them competitive along the way.

i look at the Ovens & King and see it could be as strong as the tallangatta league but it is not simple as that.. why i'm not 100% sure!!! but i think money has to be a big reason in it why is their so much money in the tallangatta and hume league as well but not that much in the O&K!!! or not that much talked about!!!! hume and tallangatta do get big named players their and i think the Ovens&King can too not sure if the clubs don't like the idea of playing players alot of money but the fact is country footy will not make it for long if clubs don't pay players!!!

Why should clubs have to pay players to play footy? What ever happened to some loyalty? And the market seems to be overinflated with average players asking (and sometimes getting) exhorbitant amount of cash/in kind to play.

Really, do these club get their moneys worth from players only strolling in for the cash. Does it build this 'let's buy a premiership' culture to live off when they move to the next mug - I mean club - who'll pay them more??!

Surely 'recruiting' a player (who usually brings some mates) sometimes leaving a team decimated from other clubs and leagues isn't in the best interests of football in general. Though I can see these creatures called footy clubs are cut throat businesses.

Once players have outpriced themselves from the market and footy clubs can no longer pay for the 'services' (which should be a privilege for the player) possibly pricing clubs out of existence will we wonder where it all went wrong!

P.S Any news on the KV/Moyhu situation?

i don't like the idea of clubs paying players but lets look at the king valley moyhu situation!!! clubs these days can't just run on local players otherwise king valley wouldn't need to worry about merger talks!!!! and you are dead right with average players asking for too much it makes it hard it does!! but the fact is country footy clubs aren't going to make it just with local players anymore!! i'm not saying you have to throw money away but sometimes getting one big named recruit can help get other recruits as well

FYI specially to those who have got no where else to go!

Myrtleford have signed a King Valley Player named Gabe OBrien, does anyone know if he will be a senior player in the O&M? Key position player from reports?

All seems very quiet heading into the Christmas/New Year break. Milawa have made the moves with some recruits - but nothing from anyone since??

Have heard All Blacks are not going well in the recruiting department. Can't get anyone to even look at them and then with BDFL & Benalla Saints sniffing at any talent they do have, could be left with less than last year. Tiny rumour that O&K League Reserves B&F Winner Dockery heading out to Tatong and some of the promising juniors heading across to GV...

And with everyone else being quiet one may assume that everyone in struggling to retain/build their lists!

We've been hearing that Dockery rumour for the past 3 years. If the girly man couldn't lure him out to tatong nobody will !!!.
