My guess would be that if they were to merge, they would be the moving club.. Their club rooms are in need of a major update, the visitors rooms you might just be able to swing a cat... And I think the seats may have come from a McPhails dining setting about 30 years ago when they boys were saying "of course we do deliver". I'm only basing this on previous years as i haven't been out there this year. I'd be probably thinking that they need to upgrade their facilities but not sure if they have the $$ needed to be competitive AND upgrade their facilities. There are constant rumours that they want to merge with someone, it wouldn't surprise me if it was all bull anyway..

I don't think their facilities are that bad. The ground is appalling, the rest is ok.

As for why they want to merge, that's anyone's guess... Rumours are very persistent though.

Adding to the rumours... The league is rumoured to want to shrink to 10 teams given the pressure plenty of teams are having fielding two full sides. Anyone else hearing this?

Aspykid wouldn't be a president of a club gee sounds like it , as you have got all the answers hahaha
This is getting tiring I notice no other club is being talked about one could only hope Nth Wang don't merge they have great facilities maybe the rain will wash the lead away.....:):):):):straining::straining:

Nah mate I'm not a president. I couldn't be bothered dealing with plebs everyday for an entire season. But on the other hand, we know you're involved with a certain ex netball coach...

On a serious note, has there been any talk in regards to what will happen with Nth Wang next season? Will they look into using another facility or will they take a year off to regroup and think of ideas? I don't think it is sustainable for them to keep using other people's grounds but if they do happen to shut up shop, it would be sad for them and the competition. I was thinking they could use the likes of Tatong's grounds and possibly train in town? Just a thought. I understand they're doing their best and the league is trying everything to assist, but if they keep doing what they're doing next season - they will most definitely lose players due to the inconveniences of not having a home ground etc and not to mention the money they would have lost this year.

Goorambat and Whorouly's rooms are the worst (although Whorouly have built new ones which I am yet to see), Bonnie Doon had the smallest away rooms ever before they renovated (could barely fit a massage table in there) and Glenrowan's are very average (I recall years ago in the middle of winter when it was pissing rain and muddy, their hot water service broke and the blokes couldn't shower). I think you'll find that most clubs apply for Government grants which take a good solid 12 months to be processed and approved. Not to mention that a lot of clubs have Rec Reserve committees that have to approve of any plans etc.

Whoroulys new rooms are good (nice and big, they also have shower cubicles for whatever reason) but you cant run around in them which, in turn, makes them fairly useless.
You cant run around in Goorambats either. (Not that we can talk, at least theh have clubrooms ). If past form is anything to go by they only give government grants to clubs about to fold anyway (think Swanpool and Tatong). Maybe they dont want the moz on them?

I haven't heard of any plans to this point. I think a lot of the planning will happen over the off season, as from what we have been told the committee already have a massive amount to do week to week keeping the operation moving.

Personally, I think a year off is probably going to hurt, but if we don't have a firm standing somewhere (or even maybe 2 grounds), then it is probably going to hurt more.

Hopefully, if the club decided to pursue the first option, the league would recognise the extenuating circumstances and not force the club out of the competition.

As for losing players, most of the blokes playing at the club (seniors) have been there since before 2012 and have experienced the mass loss of games and players before and just want to see the club succeed again. Might have the odd one or two that will leave but i don't think they'll leave en mass.

I think it's been great to see how well your club has stuck together during a very tough time.

If having a year off was to arise, I could see both benefits and negatives come out of it (i.e it will be hard to attract players back, but on the upside; ideas could be thought out more and recruiting could be better once a proper plan has been made). Also, the player points system will make it harder if you are trying to attract players but surely the league could assist with that.

It would be difficult for your committee not knowing where they can host home games, so hats off to them because the pressure would be huge. But I think that looking into a ground such as Tatong would be a good idea (not too far from Wangaratta, brand new facilities, only there every second week, not being used at the moment)...

It's good to see that your footy sides are still being filled and that these blokes are doing it so the club doesn't stop, but how about the netball? Will netballers stay, coaches re commit? I know for a fact that girls (my daughter included) like to follow their friends and for a fact - they do swap and jump clubs a lot because of that factor and of course they want to win games and learn more to improve their netball skills. It is a lot harder to attract netballers than footballers most of the time and there are more sides in the netball to fill, so hopefully this doesn't make it harder on the club.

I know North Wang haven't been successful this year, but good on them for sticking to it and not giving up during a tough time. Hopefully something good happens in the offseason for you guys and you push through because nobody likes to see clubs struggling. Also, it's good to see the league are doing something good about it and that they're handling the problem better than the Swanpool and Tatong situation.

Speaking to various people from Nth Wang on Sat, they were totally positive about their future. They've done an awesome job to hold it all together when it would have been easier for a lot of people to walk away.

Tips for this weekend? With the weather predicted to be crap for the rest of the week, there should be some relatively close games...

G-Rowan vs Milawa - Tigers by 48
Benalla vs Greta - Benalla by 14
Bright vs KV - KV by 28
Goorambat vs Moyhu - G'Bat by 36
Tarra vs Nth Wang - Tarra by 98
Whorouly vs Doon - Doon by 22

It's a bit of a dull round this weekend with the exception of one game.

Glenrowan vs Milawa. Interestingly it was this round last year where Milawa beat Glenrowan in deplorable conditions at the worst ground in the North East. Not much has changed - except Milawa don't stand a chance - Glenrowan by 30 points (but they'll more than double Milawa's score)

Benalla vs Greta. There is a gulf between 9/10 and 11/12. Greta will stay within striking distance in the first 1/2, but Benella have too much class and will win it by 20.
Goorambat vs Moyhu. The bats are traveling very nicely - this is a massive round for Moyhu, a win and they are still in the hunt, a loss and they have done their dough for 2016. Goorambat are just too strong and will win it by 25.
Tarra vs Nth Wang. Ho hum. Tarra by 152.
Whorouly vs Doon. Nup. I got nothing. Doon by 151.

Match of the round
Bright vs King Valley. Looks like an elimination final in mid July. I'm no Football professor and can only judge it on what I have seen from these two sides this year, and I just like King Valley better - more heart, more mongrel - and that counts on a cold wet July day.

Agree with KV and Bright. King Valley are a very well drilled side, not to mention Bright got a lot of injuries on the weekend at Bonnie Doon. IMO, KV will steal the sixth spot as Bright have been disappointing and always seem to be full of injuries every year during the pointy end of the season.

Personally, I think the scores for both Bonnie Doon and Tarra will be lower - only because of the weather and the fact that they will probably be resting a lot of their gun players? But who knows. I agree with the other games too

Mini kangaroos yep your on the gear why are you constantly picking on me insert sad face here.....
Might be a social forum , but keep individual to and fro to a minimum. Sad. Stick a face in if must.
Had a look at who you support at AFL and no wonder !
Actually a really bad tony Abbott face. Get one via the age!
Watching a bit. Old and tired comes to mind for a couple of teams. Maybe the mud.
Dry grounds might help a few old blokes at a couple of top teams.

Any talk of this rain causing the grounds being marked as unfit for play? Surely Glenrowan is looking even more diabolical.

I'm revising my tips. Take 100 off the winning margins of Tarra and BD.

How many debutants for the doggies this week GIF. A few names in the paper i havent seen before

I think you will find those teams in the paper are a bit off as they have to be in on Wednesday night. Just the two debutants, with the thirds having the buy young Tom Kukulka get a game and Dane Levesque from the seconds!

Some interesting results from the weekend. Who managed to see what games? The Goorambat vs Moyhu match looked to be a thriller.

The league would have to be seriously considering where they play finals this year. Greta and Benalla are two grounds I think they should consider using because at the moment it would be not great spectacles at milawa and tarra with both ground absolutely wrecked

Maybe one game each weekend at norm minns. Wang only has Corowa at home next 4 weeks. Not sure bushies. Even under lights ? O and m not interested and wang council and Showgrounds committee maybe more than happy. One would imagine use of facilities helps pay for them and in future applications for grants etc , make good reading.
Maybe to much common sense

SANFL puts plan to test country footballers for illicit drugs to regional clubs

A plan that could see country footballers tested for drugs in regional South Australia is being welcomed by some, but criticised by others for breaching civil liberties.

The South Australian National Football League (SANFL) has begun talks with country clubs about the idea that would focus on illicit, not performance-enhancing, substances.

The idea of testing country players for drugs like ice and marijuana was put to clubs at the recent SA Country Football Championships held in Port Lincoln on Eyre Peninsula.

It is intended to help combat an entrenched drug culture among many young country men.

Plans for any testing are being overseen by SANFL Integrity Officer Sean Toohey.

The Victorian comes to the newly established position after working for 16 years as a policeman and finishing up as a homicide squad detective.

He said while the plan was in its "very early days" it was not a punitive move but part of a wider plan to combat drug problems.

"I can't release details but what is at the core of it is wanting to help young people with what is a massive and complex issue," he said.

"Clubs and leagues have come requesting assistance in this area.

"We do acknowledge it's a community issue and we play a big part in that community, so it would be naive to think it isn't affecting people at country level in football clubs."

Should be more of it......o ank k would have a field day

I am going to be honest here and i am expecting to be grilled about the post you are all about to read, but in saying that i would like to think that everyone that reads this is happy with my honesty

What people do in their own time isnt anyone elses business. I am not a drug user although i am aquaintences with people who do use drugs (footballers or not). I understand why certain users continue to post certain comments BUT my questions to you are, 1) are certain players using drugs at the club (e.g. within the venue) 2) if they are not, are they using them in front of underage people eg. Being a bad role model/influence for younger blokes around the club 3) is it just a town rumour that has exploded and most importantly 4) WHAT PROOF DO YOU HAVE OF THE ALLEGED DRUG USE (proof is not the rumour that you heard from your neighbors aunties ex brother-in-laws godmother).

Once again i am not condoning drug use but who are we to say what players/coaches/supporters can and cant do in their own time.. I realise drugs in sport is a touchy subject but what about the blokes that dont use drugs and intoxicate themselves with other substances (alcohol) either in the clubrooms or at a licensed venue post match.. Would certain users agree that this would also be an example of being a bad role model for young sportspeople around any footy club??

What i am trying to say is why should a few rotten apples spoil the barrel

Looking forward to replies,

No arguments from me. As long as it isn't performance enhancing, I couldn't care less what people put in their system.

It is always interesting to see that these arguments are rolled out to pick on the 'yoof of today'. If they test for 'recreational' drugs on 'amateur' sporting field why not do the same for church groups - they are role models and community leaders too?

I agree, it's not anyone's business especially if it's done privately and not in front of club people etc and I definitely do not think club slander about drugs should be posted on here because clubs can often bring drug users relief and something to keep their mind off drug use by getting them active and involved in something. Image being an addict of a drug substance and you have decided to give up and get into footy to take your mind off things and you

Very valid points. I think people forget that although someone has a past or may involve themselves in drug activities in their own time at home, it doesn't mean clubs should turn them away because they make 'the club look bad' etc. I think these people need to be welcomed into clubs so they can be involved, play sport and volunteer to keep themselves out of trouble and to keep their mind off the crap. For these people to be involved in sporting clubs is a huge thing for them as it makes them feel important and accepted. Think about it... And it could save them for life.
