I do approve - so well done.

Bright are a quality side, Glenrowan are still trucking in their 3rds - Bright by 30

1. Glenrowan don't have 3rds (for good reason)

2. I'm glad north Wang got special treatment and didn't bother trying to field ressies all year, look what it's started.. expect more teams to follow in coming years

We all know Milawa and Tarra are going to get cricket scores, I wonder which one will be bigger?
I'm picking Milawa by 236 and Tarra by 286

Benalla V Greta could be a good game, this'll be Greta's first test for the year - but they have been building some great momentum for 14 months. My heart says Greta, but Benalla are a class above and will win by 3 goals.

Whorouly by 10 goals.
King Valley are in a different class to Moyhu. KV by 45.
Hey Slim.
Wouldn’t mind hearing your thoughts on the improvement in the Blues. But for say 15 minutes in the 3rd (5 goals to zip) I thought we pretty much matched All Blacks. While we’re never happy with a loss those in charge took many positives away.

Yeah Bunyip, much improved. Run and spread in particular, definetly harder at the footy than previous years. I think we looked better after half time without Harry.

Thought the difference was Blacks clean hands in close. I hope Harry’s knee isn’t too bad but sadly one Blues player close to the incident heard an audible “crack”. Never looks good when a knee buckles like that.

Finally - get to work Monday morning, and the talk is of the football on the weekend, and significant ups and downs of the comp.

Last Monday, after a weekend of upsets and the game of the year so far (tarra v milawa) people were crapping on about the WJFL.

No need to thank me for getting us back on to pontificating about the footy.

If Glenrowan are just 'playing the game', and just doing enough to get into finals then it is showing massive contempt for the rest of the comp. In the long term it will be a disaster for them and the 15 supporters that turn up to watch them each week.

----

I do think the big talking point now should be that this weekend we have Tarra (1) v AB's (2). In reality Tarra have just had a bye because of the demise of the Doon and the All Blacks have a tough game against Greta.

The other big question is about the survival game - Bats v North Wang. Can we guess that the winner will be in the comp in 2019 and the loser will join the Doon on the scrapheap?

I wouldn't be surprised if Bonnie Doon get through the season, that they some how link back up with Yea Alex and Thorten with what is happening with the Yarra Valley Comp merging with AFL South East from next season
Didn't bonnie doon originally try too join afl yarra ranges and the league knocked them back?

Talk it up pal... Win lose or draw we'll be around next year..

Can't believe people don't rate Tarra. Ins D Porter ( 3? Omfnl club b and f) , the great McCarthy ( yet to find his feet after a few years off ) and Billy Zane . Hoggan on song no defender in the league capable of holding either.
AFL neb made a rather large mistake a few years ago , shafting 2 clubs in Tatong/ Swanpool , and siding with the bats. Still seems a strange decision.
And the junior footy needs a complete rethink. Seems it won't happen in our lifetime , and to late then.
I might add that paying for a bus , free entry for parents, a pie and a can of coke ( no sugar) , might be slightly more value than paying a omfnl 2nds player $500 a game?

Tangent, after tangent. I'm lost.

CM should know that a tangent is a line that touches the arc of a curve!
Bit like kicking across the 50 m line. If you need to visualise it.

It may be , the curve is $ money.
Can't understand why anyone is paid to play country footy?
If any current players being paid to turn up , and read this forum , maybe you can explain why you expect to get paid?

I think the clubs have got a lot to answer for, if you are going to get offered $750 a game, of coarse you are going to take it

I'm with you FOTF, Clubs create their own (and by extension country footy in general) monsters.
I know our Club has a $$ figure per game that they will not exceed. So if a player wants more than the Club is prepared to offer then they let him walk, a club can usually get 2 or 3 mid range players for what that one player wanted.

Take one club for example, a player was talking to 3 or 4 clubs and the club he eventually went to offered $150 - $200 more than the other clubs per game, how is that good for a small country league like the O&K

What’s everyone’s tips for the weekend?
Mine are:

King Valley over Whorouly
Bright over Moyhu
Glenrowan over Doon
Milawa over Greta
Goorambat over North Wang
Benalla over Tarra

Clubs are crying out for more volunteers, more sponsors and help from the AFL and many are drowning under the weight of trying to keep country footy clubs afloat....
But then we turn around and offer players $700-800 a game! Players won’t drive the change clubs need to.

Iv got some ideas, not saying they are pwrfect but they are ideas and I think clubs need to be the driving force in changes not the players or the AFL.

Salary cap:
-Max $50,000 + coach, obviously this would need to be brought down to this level over 2-3 years. Salaray cap is only useful if all clubs can afford to spend it consistently each year. A $20k reduction in spending would relieve considerable pressure on all clubs and would ensure that more money is put towards facilities, coaching, etc. long term improvements not just player payments.

-Maximum anount allowed to be paid to any single player $400-500 per game in district league.

- 1 player per club allowed to be paid more than this figure “marquee player” but still counted towards salary cap.

Player points:
Use the player points salary as it is written, Use the full extent of the policy clauses. It says in the policy that the league can allow additional points for lack of success and geography population etc. I’d also says that the league can adjust the points allowance for clubs who have a period of sustained success.... why aren’t multiple premierships and top 2 finishes affecting the points allowance for clubs in our area? Why should a Greta, KV or Whorouly only be allowed the same points as Glenrowan the 4 time premiers?

I believe it’s the only way to ensure equalisation measures actually work.

-Top 1-2 teams on the ladder allowed 36 points the following season.
3-4 38 pts
4-6 40 pts
7-10 43 pts
11-12 46 pts
Something like this as a guideline?
Obviously there are other factors to consider to ensure the above is successful.

I totally agree

You had me at pwrfect.

This week I'm going for Tarra by a 4 points - After kicking 7 in a torrential downpour against Glenrowan I'm convinced they are better in the wet.

And I'm gunna pick it.

North for their first win in 3+(?) years. Just a lot more heart and more to prove.

The bit i cant work out is back when I played O&K in the 90's payments were fairly low but have increased 10 fold plus since. But has clubs turnover increased by the same proportion ? No . So something has to give.

Who was the chubby bloke playing in the Tarra 2's today with the pearly white smile. I think he was no. 33....Did they really fly him in to play 2's...Fat side...can u help me out.
