Doug Barwick - built like a brick washhouse (22:19). When panel shows talked the game, and only the game. And superboot kicked 5, to get 102 goals for the season

Hey oldies, hope you are all well. I'm looking forward to going to my first game this year on Thursday night. Just to get the heart started, here's an old game that I attended, where we gave Footscray a touch up. Caught the bus from Lower Templestowe to Box Hill Station and then an old Ventura bus (blue) to Waverly. It took forever. I was 16 and I had my 10 year old brother with me. Don't know what my parents were thinking, because nowadays if a parent let that happen someone would call the DHS and my parents would be dragged before the courts for negligent parenting. Long story short, we were more resourceful and independent back in the day. Kids today are soft and their parents are softer.

Wouldn't Sera be a pick up for our current side

Templeton had to tie up his own boot. There weren't 3 million support staff

Smith would be a player now as well. Spoils when he has to and intercepts when the opportunity presents.

This was the year after he got a stack of Brownlow votes IIFC and the year Bernie won the thing.

He would be first man picked. His injury before the 1983 QF against Hawthorn probably cost us the flag that year. We were stiff.

Nah, Quinlan won it in ‘81. Wilson won absolutely every media award in 1979 and lost the Brownlow by a vote to Peter Moore. Given that he was knocked out and stretchered off very early in the Rd.1 game against Collingwood, when we beat them by 80 points at Victoria Park, it is fair to say he was robbed. Then they put us out of the finals. It was very easy to hate Collingwood in 1979.

Still is.

Cannot stand Marvel Stadium, the flashing lights DURING play and the all round noise drives me bonkers.Last time I went , I left at half time, thought I was going to have an epileptic fit.
I think my days of attending in person are over unless I can snag a box ticket or have a mate in the Medallion Club.

Fagan is fast becoming in 2023, what Rod Austen was to Fitzroy in 1990. That said, if he had Fagan’s list, even Rod Austen would coach us to a flag this year. Robert Shaw was a great coach at Fitzroy in 1992 and 1993 because he knew how to galvanise a group of players and build spirit. Fagan is not a patch on him. Look at Fitzroy here. Undermanned, outgunned, cheated by umpires and look at the way this team played. Fagan’s ‘jovial uncle’ crap just doesn’t cut it. Fitzroy were a team of JUNKYARD DOGS and I loved them.

For the consideration of members …

“I knew you’d see it my way eventually. You are a solid poster. I really like your “live” posting in games and I agree with your read on most things. Funny how we get on each others goats in selection threads and pre-match threads. I think it is time to declare that you are officially endorsed by 3KZ is Football and though not loved as much as DERRINALPHIL MSB ROYS martinson Roylion Nunez Gadzorks western royboy FitzroyPete and royboys4eva and M Malice and Mr Ripper - you are now officially OK. Peace out Nathan Barley. You love the Lions and that’s good enough for us.

PS. I loved Dylan12 too #MissingPersons and everyone loves MacMum, me included. McIvor is also worthy of great love and admiration.”

On the basis of this post (see above), should we offer Nathan Barley a Junior Provisional Membership?

A few membership cards will be in the micro if you do for sure.

For this week: Fitzroy v North Melbourne.

A close one:

A not so close one

Makes me grind my teeth.North finished top that year , how I dont know.Must be the only top team to ever get beaten by 150 points. If we had beaten Hawthorn in our final ,we would have played North and IMHO waltzed into the Grand Final leaving Hawthorn and Essendon to belt each other up .
We would then have faced a bruised and bloodied Hawthorn or Essendon in the GF.
Instead we got beaten up by Essendon who were stuffed by the time they got to the GF. hawthorn predictably rolled over North like we would have.
I know , lots of maybes in this but in my head it was a certain flag.

Of all the years, I believe ’83 was the won that got away. The following year the Roy’s played Hawthorn at Mortlake in a practice Match (still have the record) We dead set flogged the arse off them Bernie kicked 6 or 8 before half time and took the rest of the day off.

1984 and 1985 Essendon were too big and nasty but 1983 was the year.I get even more frustrated that in the last quarter of the Hawthorn game, they only scored goals from free kicks or our mistakes I.e Hinchen I think putting a kick out down the throat of an opponent 25 metres out on a slight angle Glenn James paying a deliberate free kick.Still gets up my nose 40 years later.
We had all three teams lose both their finals that year.
