Straw Man - thousands use this term but only about 1% of them know what it actually means

"Begs the question" - same as above

Always amusing to hear people use "begs the question", totally unaware that they are using it incorrectly.

"Modern game" is used constantly these days by football commentators/analysts.

It literally gives me the shits the way that people misuse the word literally.

literally want to rip people's heads off when they overuse literally, figuratively of course.

I think it is one of those phrases where its meaning has morphed over the years. Plenty of reputable publications use it in the common colloquial sense, correcting it these days would be the height of pedantry.

EDIT: Just looked it up in my Oxford and it says that it is 'widely accepted in modern standard English'. I really know how to party on a Saturday night.

"You get out what you put in"
"Failure to prepare and you prepare to fail"
"The hardest workers tend to be the luckiest"

and other assorted $2 motivational quotes. I'm not saying their not necessarily true, they are some of the time but when they are used as a fallback for every position no matter what the circumstances I reckon they are over used.

I used to have a boss, and every time you stuffed up anything he'd say "you never lose a lesson learned". Which is a good, positive aphorism to tell someone who just feels like they failed at something, but eventually it started to drive you up the wall.

Unfortunately ever since working for him I have started using it myself.

Hear it a lot did you?:p

So what does 'begs the question' mean?

"Carelled" is one I'm sick of hearing, especially from commentators (namely BT and Bruce). WTF is it even supposed to mean?
