Started keto 9 weeks ago and as of today 7.6kg down, still a long way for me to go but am at least mentally in the game now. Don’t miss sugar at all but god I miss savoury goods like chips and crackers.
Amazing work. You should be really proud.

If people were taught why keto works, and the health benefits related to type-2 diabetes, blood pressure, dementia etc, more people would eat a diet that leans more towards consuming mostly keto-type foods.

I like say I dunno, a packet of Twisties. Or a Cadbury chocolate block. They are enjoyable to snack on but do they really taste that amazing? Does one really need to throw them in the shopping trolley? Is it really that hard living for a bit without them?

Have these people even tried?

I actually find caffeine way more challenging to go without.
We are not conditioned to understand that sugar is a drug. Furthermore, we are not conditioned to understand that people respond to sugar differently in the same way that people respond to cigarettes, alcohol and caffeine differently.

Some of us are more prone to to be addicted to certain drugs than others. Hence why so many people really struggle to give up sugary foods.

If we treat food consumption/addiction in the same way we treat other addictions from both a professional health perspective and from a personal compassionate perspective, society will be better at addressing the issues.

If I had invented a pill that turned off the part of your brain that makes drugs enjoyable or otherwise satisfying for the rest of your life, an addiction killer - after I was murdered by organised crime and pharmaceutical companies - would people take it?

No more pleasure from sugar, no more cravings for donuts, no more satisfaction from a smoke or drink - but potentially no high from working out either.

Is the enjoyment of life worth the requirement to dance on the knife edge of slipping into unhealthy habits?

As of this morning I’m 16kg down 👌

Went to the shops last night and noticed a bloke I went to school with back in the day, now a big unit. Dude had three blocks of Cadbury 350g in his arm with some other stuff.

Sugar is addictive but over 1kg of chocolate..?
I'll admit that's normal for me too. Getting off sugar and carbs is hard even when you know better.

I lost 2kgs in 2 weeks simply from switching to a manual occupation again.

And that was with eating half a family size bag of Twisties and an ice cream every night.

Was tough feeling cooked at the end of the day but still went to the gym as well.

Stay hard.
Think of how much you would have lost if you’d skipped the Twisties and ice cream as well 🙂

I went to a friend's house for lunch on Boxing Day. I was telling her about the carnivore diet. She said, "That doesn't seem very healthy". This woman would have a BMI over 35. She had a spread of cakes and other things on the table. The lack of awareness of some people just baffles me.

Dunno if Xmas time is the best to judge what people normally eat tbf!

Not really the point though is it? How can she say that something seems unhealthy and be oblivious to her own eating patterns?

Had a tough year at work and stress ate myself a new 15 kg. Plenty of work ahead in 2025…
Yeah feel like I did an Essendon... started the year well, looking ok but then slowly faded away (ate more, did less) and Xmas has just got me like "stuff it"

Gotta start moving more FFS

Well it's hypocritical and wrong time of year to judge, for sure. But take that out and there are still valid criticisms of the carnivore diet.

Would be interesting to understand their normal diet and what they assume is ok and not.

Took you a year to gain those 15kgs, give yourself the same time period to lose it.

Will make it less stressful and more achievable.

Aim for about 1kg to 1.5kg/month.

Despite that she's right though isn't she?

In saying that I have always thought eating mainly just meat but with lots of vegetables as well would be a good tactic to lose weight. Satiating foods that still taste nice.

Completely gone off insulin injections and blood pressure meds on carnivore.

Special diets that exclude food groups are unsustainable. Protein at every meal makes you feel full for longer. Vegetables are also important, as is fruit. Unprocessed foods are best.
