For 11 consecutive seasons we’ve had management tell us we have a great young team

And they see no issue with it

It's pretty standard AFL coach/management talk. Probably 15 of the 18 clubs at any given time say they've got a great young team - which is just code for 'we're not good now, but just wait a bit and we'll be good soon!'. In most cases it's accountability avoiding, career extending spin.

It's said so often by so many that it's become meaningless waffle.

No expectations in the change room when we are constantly in a rebuild lmao. Its like a red rag to a bull. Players see that and be like "ah ok so ill do what i need to and preserve myself for when it matters."

Remember feel as long as the players "good people" that's all that matters apparently 😕

Supporters yearn for a "Big Bob" type of CEO or President/Chairman.
Truth is, there ain't too many of them around these days, and probably are considered dinosaurs anyway, with the emphasis on kumbaya feeling well and mirroring societal wellness traits.
The hamfisted bulldozer approach seems to be extinct nowadays.

Unless you have football megalomaniacs like McGuire, the board will give maximum powers to the CEO and executives, especially when things are going well or are stable.

That has been standard big corporate board / directors behaviour in Oz for the last 30 years. Its the executives that get paid the big $$$ and given the big incentives to growth the business not board members.

The exception are Executive Chairmen. Most tend to be chair and CEO or chair and effective CEO because of controlling share ownership. Rupert Murdoch, Kerry stokes, Gerry Harvey, Hamish Douglass at Magellan Financial etc.

Twiggy Forrest used to be an executive chair and CEO until he realised let someone else do the grunt work as CEO at Fortescue and he goes off and does other more interesting stuff after making his billions. But with Elizabeth Gains stepping down as CEO a few months ago and joining the board as a non executive director, he once again has called himself Executive Chairman as they haven't found a new CEO yet.

But the best corporate governance models are to separate the chair duties from the CEO's duties and the board have oversight. Ex ANZ CEO Mike Smith has said he wont join the board of a public corporation as public boards don't do enough business of the business and get bogged down in regulatory stuff. As an ex CEO he knew his desire was to run things not oversee things and see they are complying to laws and regulations. I suspect our board are very hands off re the on field stuff, the real business of PAFC Limited.

I don't think Koch and Osborn are megalomaniacs and Kev runs a business mentoring board members and assisting boards and executives handle volatility, threats, uncertainty and growth strategies. He is conservative and risk averse. Koch has an decent ego, says dumb things and shoots off at the mouth too often, but he doesn't want to change football and the AFL comp like McGuire does.

Now members of a business corporation, ie shareholders, take a very different approach to members of a footy corporation / club ie the club members. Shareholders want capital gains and dividends, footy members want success, win - games, finals and flags.

But most people on footy club boards have a corporate background so they will concentrate on the business side of the footy club rather than the footy side. Plus corporate boards don't have to worry as much about public image, PR spin and politics as do AFL footy boards.

The hard bastard/successful CEOs who have lasted a long time tend to take a long term view of things, Brian Cook, Trevor Nisbett and Brendan Gale. But as CEO's they didn't win a premiership until year 8 or 9 of their tenure and Cook and Gale took over when their club's were in financial strife off field and struggling on field.

Gary Pert lasted 11 seasons with McGuire 2007-17 and it didn't end great, but the Pies won the flag in his 4th season and he has been at Melbourne 2019 and saw a flag in his 3rd season. Think Andrew Ireland is the only other person to be CEO at 2 clubs when they won the flag. 1990-2001 left after the first of Brisbane's flags, and Sydney 2010-18 with the 2012 flag and 2 GF losses in 2014 and 2016.

Our executives really run our club, in particular - CEO, Footy Ops Boss and Coach. They are the ones earning the big bucks not the directors.

You make a lot of sense. The board has oversight and it mainly goes wrong with the Chair of the board (president) thinks he/she has decision making ability. They dont as an individual. Only boards can make decisions, not individual directors. If Koch is making decisions without the board, he should be immediately terminated. That is not in the constitution, let alone any governance structure of any business. Small, medium or large.

I am also pleased to confirm our financial result for 2022 is an operating profit of $3,463,522, which is another excellent result on the back of last year. This doesn’t include significant grant revenue associated with our re-development projects.

Importantly we’ve now been able to reduce our debt by almost $6.0m in two years, which is significant and a great reflection on the strength of the club.

If he can't understate how important membership is, that means he can only overstate it - i.e., there are no words to describe how unimportant the members are...

Sounds about right.

So there was no excuse not to pay out hinkley then just being a gutless coward as per usual

This has been the case for years. Here's a story from August 2019: CEO backs Hinkley to 'absolutely' deliver Port Adelaide a flag

"It's not that we can't afford to get rid of him," Thomas said.
"We're choosing not to because we believe that he can build us a premiership team and we think that he's an outstanding coach."

There's really no excuse for this bulls**t.

Maybe, if we squint at the club through the most charitable possible lens, we can pretend that the current administration's goal is to erase our debt in the hopes of becoming a member-controlled club again. They probably view it as a noble sacrifice, knowing that they'll have to fall on their sword when a restless anti-Hinkley fanbase violently removes them as soon as they are able to. But that's not nobility, it's manifest incompetence. If they can't walk (strategically manage the club's finances) and chew gum (take responsibility for staffing our football program), they should resign in disgrace.

Pretty much confirms what I have written on here the last 8 weeks that the executives make the big calls and recommendations to the board about the coach, and when those executives back him and work with him, they are all in.

REH, I thought after that meeting we attended at the end of 2019, Richo may have been different because I was certain KT was Hinkley's number 1 ticket holder. Now I'm not so sure.
