Paleo: the most divisive modern diet?

Far from extinct, the caveman is making a comeback. In a behemoth manner.
Paleo was the most searched diet term on Google in 2013, caveman cafes are cropping up in capital cities around the country and if you look for paleo books on Amazon you will get close to 4000 listings.

There were nearly 20 new books published on the topic in the past month alone.
Since the original book promoting paleo, The Paleo Diet by Dr Loren Cordain, was published in 2001, it has certainly been catapulted into public consciousness. But the diet remains one of the most divisive out there.

I've mentioned this a few times, but I'm not a huge consumer of meat. I have never tried kangaroo but I'd love to try it. Any recommendations for a first timer?
We eat kangaroo mince , made into casseroles etc . Good stuff. I would get Roo steak but not a good cook , as it only needs a small time for cooking . Am going to try next time I see it on a menu in a café . No fat, full of good stuff for us :) CAn buy it in WW

Can coconut oil generally be found in supermarkets? I was looking for it the other day but all I saw was the coconut oil in the spray can.
Health food shops , in glass jars, or it is in our local Woolies in glass jars

I love kangaroo, 200g of the mince kangaroo makes two good size burgers and you can add in herbs/spices you like and even dice up some veggies and mix in. The steaks i like to slice thinly and heat up the pan slightly higher than you would for some beef and literally throw the kangaroo strips for 3-4 mins done.

haven't made burgers yet. They would only need quick cooking , like the steak ?

Depends how much you thin the burgers out, i cook them for a similar time you would for any other burger you make. 8 -10 mins should do the trick.

My Day On A Plate: The Commando (2012)

Commando
Trainer from Channel Ten's The Biggest Loser

7am Arriving on the set of The Biggest Loser, I'm ready for a hearty breakfast. I have two poached eggs, smoked salmon or lean bacon, fresh tomatoes and avocado, and a small bowl of fresh fruit salad.

10am After training my team for success, my mid-morning snack generally consists of grilled chicken breast and a cup filled with a few tablespoons of tahini, and a mix of raspberries and blueberries.

1pm After more filming I'm definitely ready for lunch. I have grilled fish with loads of steamed greens (my preference is broccolini, bok choy and snow peas) and some olive oil and lemon as dressing.

4pm I have an easy afternoon snack to see me through the traffic driving home and my own daily training: a tin of tuna, a handful of almonds and a couple of pieces of fruit.

7pm I'm spent from training and it's time to relax at home, but not before a nice steak on the barbie with more steamed vegetables or a salad.

Nutritionist Dr Joanna McMillan says:
The positives of Commando's diet are that he is getting plenty of greens and other vegetables, and good fats from the nuts, tahini, avocado and olive oil. He eats regularly and his food choices are all natural with minimum processing. However, his diet is low in calcium as he has no dairy products. He is clearly also trying to keep his carb intake low. This is fine for strength training, but any endurance athlete knows carb-rich foods are necessary for peak performance. I'd like to see him enjoying a few smart carbs, such as quinoa, wholegrain sourdough bread, legumes and oats, which provide fibre, slow-release energy and plant protein, and will reduce his reliance on animal foods.

People in Commando's position are very careful on exposing their daily meal plans in interviews when they know it's being released to the public.
He'd look like a hypocrite if he said he ate coco pops for breaky n donuts for lunch & he'd loose the vegan audience if he said he eats a kilo of meat a day.
A lot of celebs lead us to believe what they'd like to eat daily but follow them around & I bet you'll discover otherwise.
Most would be dependant on caffein & line or two here n there!
