Downwards is faster.

Upwards is slower though usually - not always - safer.

More importantly downwards takes one end of the baton and naturally puts the other end in the hand of the receiver. Upward passes require the receiver to change grip after receiving or else have their wrist opened “outwards”.

Bit Big Footy wont let you read with out opening another tab;

same time as 6th placing in London 2012 finals [my comment David Rudisha ran his WR of 1:40.91 at London final]
same time as Peter Bol semi-final win Tokyo 2020
equal Australian Olympic record

But this year won't get him through to the final

Such a gritty runner & so much to look forward to ...

Sedjati ran that like former Russian 800m runner Borzakovsky ( who won in Athens) used to run his 800m, would be last or 2nd last with 200m to run.

Think it was a PB for him but was a PB for Wanyoyi and Arop.

1.41.19 and 1.41.20 are the 4th and 5th fastest times of all time.

Sedjati has gone
1.41.46 at Monaco Diamond league on 12th July to beat Attaoui who finished 6th and Taul who finished 7th
1.41.56 at London Diamond league on 20th July to beat Wanyoni by 0.02sec and Taul by 0.05
1.41.50 here.

So he didn't go slow like Borzakovsky used to go then sprinted, the pace was on from the start and he just could go as quick early on.

The 800m has gone from a bit of an after though and Arop the favourite from 4 or 5 months ago to a cracking contest.

The women's 800m hurdles.

France are a chance, the Stade de France will erupt if Samba Mayela can be in the mix for a medal.
A 2 lapper should have the crowd screaming. ;)
