The US were unlucky not to break the old Soviet WR from 1988. They needed someone up there backside the first 2, or 2.5 legs.

Bol got the dutchies a silver and Ireland don't get their medal.

Men's missed the the USA's relay record from Stuttgart world champs in 1993 by 0.14 and the women missed the Soviets WR from 1988 Seoul Olympics by 0.10.

This is why all the talk about population relative to medal count is such a furphy. Population plays a very minor part in national success.
