No, we won't. We're not taking a single pick for our co-captain and best player (when fit).

We'll match any bid and a trade will get done if he wants to go home. Nothing surer.

If he picks west coast they don't have anything in value. You cant just say we want Allen because he probs will want to stay in WA being he was a WA boy. their draft picks will not be better than a compensation pick say 6 or 7

How’s Yeo’s season going out of interest? Hasn’t played in almost 12 months, and might lose his X-factor which is one of the hallmarks of his game.

Very easy to play the what if game, but we know what Cripps’ best looks like, and it’s better than Yeo’s.

Yeo is back in about 2-3 weeks you can judge him then for yourself if you like.

How about Jamie Cripps for Patrick Cripps?

That way Carlton fans can still get to keep any merch they have with Cripps' name on it and not feel robbed :rainbow:

Not true.

As things currently stand West Coast have 2 first round picks and 3 second round picks to play with.

Without even mentioning players, that's a very reasonable starting point for negotiations given the flexibility clubs have with pick swaps.

They may not be in isolation, but as a package they certainly could be. You're looking at this far too simplistically.

carlton have no cap room, cant match a bid if they sign on mckay
cap is busted

I don’t think we’d be interested in Cerra or Merrett if we didn’t have cap space.

Cripps would already be on 850k-1m at Carlton. We don’t have to find that money like WCE/Freo do, and with his current form as it stands we certainly won’t need to find more.

We match any bid, nothing surer.

Cripps and his manager have absolutely no leverage negotiating with Carlton. He has no offers from other clubs to counter whatever Carlton is offering.

You never accept the first offer but Cripps will have no choice.

It is a bit strange he hasn’t re-signed yet as his value seems to be dropping by the week. I get backing yourself in to try and get a better deal but he is losing leverage by the week.

Personally I think he stays. I’d honestly love him at WC but not at the expense of Yeo. (Which is a ridiculous suggestion, even for TB) We would want Cripps to complement Yeo, not replace him.

Having said that, I’m not sure that WC have the cap space for a big offer, or be able to trade the first rounder they have this year because of the restrictions around trading 1st round picks. So I’m not quite sure WC are the fit for Cripps. Freo makes more sense.

People are thinking that they are starting negotiations from scratch , I would be certain the most of the contract is already set and they would be negotiating the edges of the deal before announcing it. IMO he stays for between $850k - $900k for 5 years and finishes as a 1 club player.

Carlton wont try to screw him after he has carried them on his back for so many years , I dont write off champion players easily and im sure Cripps will get back into the form we have seen him the last 7 years

Alot of whats being said here is just laughable

Freo makes more sense.

Really?? He plays in the same position as Fyfe, Mundy, Brayshaw and Serong. We don’t need him we have enough inside mids. Zach Merrett (his brother plays for Peel) would make more sense because of his outside game and elite disposal if we were to chase a free agent.

Mundy is better than Cripps right now.

What I don’t understand with Carton is they have Cap problems and haven’t signed Cripps and McKay yet but is chasing Cerra for $700k a year.

Not sure how much we need a banged up poor mans Yeo.

Nathan Vardy and a years supply of brown paper bags would be my best offer.

West Coast can't trade out it's first pick after doing so the last two years. Must use it in the draft. And I'd be very surprised if we wanted to trade it even if we could - we have no good midfielders younger than 26 coming through so it is an absolute must that we use our first pick this year to bring one in. Cripps' best footy appears to be a long way behind him, he's either lost form terribly or has been hampered badly by injuries in both 2020 and 2021. Either way he's worth nowhere near what he once was. Just can't see a trade for picks getting it done. Can't see Cripps getting to West Coast at all really.

Ah well , maybe Mundy is going to hang them up and we need to get Cripps and Bolton in to try to go someway towards squaring up the ledger

Personally think he's a massive risk for any trade or long term contract right now. Reminds me of Dan Hanneberry/Rob Gronkowski where perhaps his body is simply irrepairable without a year off from the game. If he goes back to WA god I hope we manage to swindle Cerra or someone because by next year I wouldnt be surprised if Cerra has gone past him. Massive fall from 2019

Dan Hanneberry? I think you mean without a year off from the gear

our midfield that’s got spanked the last few weeks?

I’d take Cripps in a heart beat. No reason Mundy/Brayshaw couldn’t play some wing over plebs like Acres.

Wouldn’t be keen to trade our first or a player tho, would obv want as a FA only and not massively over pay. So probably rules us out there.

We got spanked for defensive midfield work. Cripps is the last guy you want when that is your problem.

Trading Yeo to get Cripps is such crap from Tom Browne.

would Cause massive issues culturally at the Eagles as Yeo is so highly rated internally, B&F winner premiership player etc.

Plus Yeo is the point of difference player in their midfield when fit. Got good clearance guys in Redden/Kelly and even Nic Nat and speed in Shuey. Yeo is the explosive athletic contested marking type. IMO Eagles missing that far more than any clearance player.

Plus Yeo can go back and even go head to head (tag) guys like Fyfe, Dusty, Bonts etc.

Cripps is probably a better player through their careers, but Yeo is more important to WCE
