Paul Roos slams Melbourne

The situation we're in has very, very little to do with any recruitment decisions made within the last several years.

We have plenty of talent within our ranks. It's just wrong to state otherwise.

The legitimately poor recruitment decisions, which had the greatest deleterious effect, were many of those made between 2000-2005 - regarding our middle-age and older players.

But even that issue is a relatively small part of the overall equation. Recruitment is far from being the most significant factor. It's only one issue amongst many problems that have needed to be solved by the club. And have been.

Can you elaborate?

Paul Roos has it in for St Kilda in how they treated Rossy, and is trying to fire up the Demons for tonight.

;)

Melbourne have had a plethora of early picks but their development of youth has been lacking. I think this comes down to a lack of senior leaders around the place, it's a reason why you can't just go full on youth. You need a few 'list cloggers' to show the youngsters how to work hard and what the work ethic required for AFL footy is. Also gifting games to youngsters isn't the right way to go about it, you've got to make sure they earn it.

I was wondering how far into the piece it would take before we got a mention of his time at Sydney.

I CAN distinctly remember feeling helpless to stop a rampaging Melbourne in my final season as coach of the Sydney Swans.

Lead sentence.

He's right about the bluster the Dees players were showing, forgetting about actually beating their man. Just look at Murphy who was smashing Melbourne, yet was laughing at Dunn carrying on like a knob.

If things don't turn around quickly Trengove, Watts and co won't go close to fulfilling their potential.

Fair enough too. We are rubbish...still!

This is our 6th year of slop and it's difficult to suggest with a straight face it will end any time soon without some serious changes in attitude (and possibly ability).

Some say we tanked in 2009 and that's reasonable to suggest with the players playing out of position and the constant shit efforts. I have problems admitting we tanked though, solely because we have been playing players out of position and stinking it up on the field for years.

We have been terrible for some time and have done nothing to suggest we don't deserve to be slammed by Paul Roos, our opposition and anyone else that feels the need.

I really like Mark Neeld and have faith in him as a head coach. I have faith that he will be able to invoke a disciplined attitude into the Demons. I'll just have to be patient and continue to support my team when they need it most.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Nice of Roos to give Melbourne some ammo to fire themselves up for their game against us tonight.

Why? He wasn't playing well enough to assume he would have been the match winner.

If you're seriously trying to argue that losing our biggest focal point up forward wasn't a key factor in determining the final outcome of that game...

Your right. He,s your Biggest focal point at the club.$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

No doubt he was a loss but still no guarantee you would have won.

Have to agree with Aussie on this one, if Clark played he might've gotten a goal but probably wouldn't have won us the game. If Silvia and Jurrah weren't out with injury/suspension during that game we might've stood a chance.

what part of only had kicked 1 goal for the match up to that point dont you understand?

Rather superficial comment, to put it tactfully.

Aside from creating another goal directly, he was our biggest physical presence in the forward line.

He was instrumental in winning the contested ball up forward. He drew the Dogs' best available backman.

Not that hard to understand, I would have thought.

Oh dear. What sort of incoherent babble is this...

I think Neeld would be aware that we aren't putting in hard enough long enough but as a successful ex-coach offering his view Roos is simply supporting the fact that coaching our side is no easy prospect atm.

Are we still not fit enough?

Do we have too many pissweak players?

Do we lack leadership?

Are they still feeling the hardest pre-season ever?

Probably a combination of the 4 I suspect and it won't be rectified in a hurry and that's before we look at the learning process of the Neeld game plan.

Pretty typical journalism from the Herald Sun. Just jump on an easy target and pick them apart. No real, genuine attempt at an analysis of why Melbourne are where they are, just vague, general, sweeping statements such as "Melbourne would be last in effort".

Herald Sun know Melbourne are their meal ticket this year, too. If they can keep the blowtorch on them long enough they can run a series of articles on how poor they've been, couple that with "Melbourne's best talent are eyeing off a move in free agency", then they can transition into "there are ructions at the club regarding coaching", then move to "the board has denied there are any plans to replace Neeld", then pray that there is actually a coaching replacement as the final pay off.

Finally, what the **** is Roos doing commenting on round 4 games? He was in the States last weekend and openly admitted he hadn't even seen his precious Swannies play at all. So I hardly doubt he was hanging around watching the twilight game between Melbourne and the Dogs. At least respect the game and your employers enough not to schedule a holiday during the bloody season.
