Sydney would never pay him 1.6 million over 2 years, for a number of reasons. Firstly, to make him the highest paid player in a selfless society like 'the bloods' would fly in the face of everything Roos has tried to preach. It would undermine his message and cause friction without a doubt. Secondly it would create such an uproar in the media that Eddie and co might finally get there way and the AFL would seriously have to look at removing Sydney's salary cap benefits.

That was a total of $800,000 over 2 years.:)

Well, even still, you presume too much that another club won't pick up the tab. The AFL pretty much bankroll all clubs these days so money isn't a concern. If a club has the salary cap room and they need a ruckman you can guarantee that they will pick him up. Sydney are stuffed :)

Agree, Andrew Ireland is running a very tight ship at present and he aint going to be splashing cash around like that for a number of reasons.

A two year deal for $350,000 per year plus incentives will probably put off other clubs not wanting to gamble on a 32 year old that does not want to really play for them.

In normal circumstances as a Sydney supporter I would not be advocating even $350,000 a year for two years for a 32 year old, but we are in a unique postion where we could potentially be playing for another couple of premierships in the next two years and Spida will help us in this situation.

Why are we stuffed, we have two ruckman in Jolly and Doyle.

While they ain't no Cox, they are both big bodied and can compete. Spida would be the icing on the cake as far as I am concerned but it aint the end of the world if we can't sercure him for the right price.

Roos clearly has a hardon for Spida. With their gameplan he knows it will greatly improve their chances to win a premiership. He has said himself he doesn't care about the future. I have a feeling Sydney are going to end up coughing up their first round pick. Watch Pelchen work his magic again :)

There is no chance that Sydney will give up pick 15 for Spider Everitt, not now that he is 32. Any talk of that is garbage...

Which clubs will really want a disgruntled Spider on their lists? He would talk in the media, he would cause problems and bag the team and coach. He is too much of a hot head.

Carlton would not touch him with a red-hot poker I reckon and we are more deficient in the ruck (and backs and coach and interchange :p ) than any other club in the competition.

At 800k over 2 years Spider will be a Swan

Agree again, Spida could be the x factor to get us back into a GF and reverse the result this year but we ain't going to cough up our first round pick that is set for best remaing KP defender in the draft at 15.

The game at present is whether Spida goes for a second rounder or the Hawks panic come Friday and accept a third rounder.

Equally Hawthorn could not trade at all and cut their nose off to spite their face..............................

Agreed. A team that has 100 stoppages a game, could see Spider having a field day.

Cant see a 1st rounder, but it will get better than 49 thats for sure.

4 days of poker to go, who will hold there nerve. :D

Let's hope the St.Kilda rumour is true about pick 27, could force their hand. Would be delighted with either 27/33, as the club trading FOR an uncontracted player has the power, and I think pick 27 or 33 is clearly at least equal to Everitt's worth.

On Thornton, it's going to go down to Friday, and anything could happen. I'd like to put 24+27/33 or 24+ rubbish player on the table, and they can take it or leave it.

Look at this from an outsider’s perspective.

Pelchen and Ireland are probably in the top 3 negotiators in the league - with Greg Miller, this is like a game of Chicken who is flinches first will get screwed over.

Sydney want to give us their 3rd round pick, likewise Hawthorn want Sydney's first round pick. If Spida goes into the draft he will almost certainly go to a club like St.Kilda - why wouldn't the Saints pick him up in the PSD? Spida could easily be the missing link that could get the Swans another flag, but at what cost?

I suspect it'll come down 1.30pm on Friday, both will get desperate and settle on the Swans second round pick, possibly with a transaction of players. The 2nd round pick is the inevitable ground that will almost certainly be the sealer.

Hawthorn could then use the Everitt - Sydney pick and pick 24 in a bid to secure Thornton, if nothing comes of this, **** happens and we move onto the draft - where we have done pretty well in recent years.

As for this mysterious 3rd party, it has to be the Saints. Spida won't follow suit and go back to the Saints, so a Hawthorn - Saints deal isn't going to happen during Trade Week, but it's a very important element in a potential Swans-Hawks deal - it casts doubts in the minds of the Swans and will go along way to getting this deal done and dusted before the PSD.

Very interesting few days coming up :thumbsu:

Because if he gets injured in Round 2 next year we have a 33 year old ruckman no one wants yet we still have to pay for two years.

.

And if Chris Judd goes down with a knee in the Wizard Cup, we're paying huge dollars for someone who's giving us no out-put on field.

It's the risk you take in football.

Poor comparison because Judd can come back from an injury like that and still give you 5+ years of good footy, if Spider cops an injury like that it's career over.
FWIW, pick 49 is rubbish and worth nothing to the Hawks if we can't use it to get Thornton, he will go to the PSD if that's all we can get.

But Juddy's the best player in the world.

Seems that the Swans second rounder plus a swap in places between the Swans & Hawks in the third round is on the table.

As a Swans supporter I can't see a real issue with that. We lose our second pick but progress up the order in the third plus gain Spida.

Would assume that the Hawks will turn around and offer that second rounder and something else to Carlton for Thornton.

Don't underestimate Grant Williams who was praised by Caroline Wilson as being a good manager on the weekend. Pelchard can go fish somewhere else if he thinks 24 and 33 will get you Thornton.

A second rounder got the Dogs the soon to be 30 Akermanis.

Was Williams involved in getting Stevens to Carlton via the PSD when Pelchard was at Port?

Interesting couple of days to be had if the answer to my question is yes.

Doesn't really matter to us anyway - we are using it on a F/S selection. Good move all round really

Well there you go, we get Spida and lose only 7 places from our second pick. Hawks get their second rounder they need for a further deal and have a third rounder to pick up the f/s that they want.

Everyones a winner.

Impossible.

It has to be the 4th Round selections which are on the card as the original 3rd round selection a club has, has to be used for F/S.

Okay if that is correct are you really taking a f/s selection then.

Swans have a maybe f/s selection in Greg Williams son, but that will be conditional on whether Carlton decide to take him or not as he has indicated his preference to reamin in Melbourne first.

You sure about that?

I thought as long as you had a selection in that round, you can still nominate a F/S selection.

Yeh i'm pretty sure it's the case (as worthy also seems to believe).

The only reason I remember this is because we speculated downgrading our 3rd Round pick last year (Tuck), only to find out that the original pick needed to be used, or if it was traded, a 2nd round pick had to be used then.

Obviously, that wouldn't be good.
