Pendlebury calls Saints soft.

They got rolled in the end - by a decent margin - but at least they didnt serve up the dross that StKilda puts on every week.

20+ goals against is something we'll struggle to emulate.

Not that there's anything wrong with downhill skiing.

I pride myself on being one of the first to take offence at what a Collingwood supporter or player says about the Saints.

But there was nothing in this. I doubt Pendlebury was thinking about the Saints when he made those comments.

Move along.

Not a chance. All due respect to Carlton for putting on the best quarter of football you are likely to see all year - the third quarter against the Pies. It was a cracker.

Didn't see the third term in the Geelong v Port Adelaide game?

Back on topic, if the OP creates a few more threads like this, I can see that award on the Collingwood board getting a name change. :p

I think you will find that we actually scored more than you but you just scored more accurately.

Ignoring the fact a goal = 6 points and a behind = 1 point and we outscored you 10 goals to 4 here is the total of our last 4 encounters

Pies 25.55 from the boundary line - Saints 59.29 from the centre corridor.

zip-4, 2 finals

This is laughable considering St. Kilda's recent record against the Pies.

Huh?

We've played once this year, and our inaccuracy infront of goal actually won you the game.

The only time I can remember you comprehensively beating us in last year's QF when Pendlebury fractured his leg in the first quarter and theres that h&a game last year when you played our B team due to injuries when we had more than half the side (12 players) under the age of 22.

Other than that, we'd won the previous three contests, including the two h&a games in 2008.

Interesting trend, because you'd also won the previous 4 before that, and we'd won the previous 6 before that streak.

Hardly laughable, you haven't got anything over us. If anything, its quite laughable that we have our greatest winning percentage (AND most wins) against St Kilda who we've played over 200 times yet have still won over 70% of the games, only University and the Bears have a worst record against us.

Carlton's record against us is better

as for not having anything over you, what's the head to head in finals?

Enough of the slanging. Dal Santo was once soft but always throws himself in recklessly now. Montagna's playing style often sees him crunched viciously in packs. Hayes speaks for himself. Goddard is built like a brick house. Armitage is a natural. Jones is also amazing. If you think Riewoldt is soft then you have absolutely no ****ing idea whatsoever and should just spare humilating yourself by saying he is.

Every club has a few players with questionable motivation to get into a physical contest, but it's silly to suggest two of the best teams in the league right now are rife with them. And that's what you're all collectively doing.
God I hate agreeing with a saints supporter but when your right your right. Both teams are going well atm and that doesn't come from softness.
I don't like the St Kilda game style but they are certainly not soft and niether are we for that matter.

Nice story.

You conveniently forgot being put out of the finals in 2008, so you'll need an excuse for that one. If you are struggling, send a PM to KissStephanie or just call her and press '2' for 'excuses for losing to St Kilda'.

Thank you. In fact, there is no doubt whatsoever that Pendlesbury's comments had nothing at all to do with StKilda.

Have a look at what he actually said (as opposed to what some illiterate morons here like to imagine what he said) -
"... And it has probably taken a bit of pressure off him as well, knowing there's 10 or 12 guys willing to cop the hits as well. He's not the only one who has to do it. ..."

Its crystal clear he was talking wholly and solely about Luke Ball's pressure (i.e. taking the pressure off him by sharing the load) in the Collingwood midfield - and only in the Collingwood mid-field. Nothing whatsoever to do about the Saints - no aspersions, allusions, simply nothing.

The comments had nothing to do with the Saints, pure and simple. It wasn't worded badly - only in BF could anyone be stupid and illiterate enough to think otherwise. There truly are a fair share of uneducated morons here.

I gave up reading the posts in this thread through frustration . Pendlebury called no one soft. What he effectively said was Collingwood's midfield bats deeper. Nowhere did he infer anyone at St. Kilda is soft or that St. Kilda in any way is soft.

I agree with Pendlebury and the continual assessment of Collingwood being an even side with few stars would back him up as well. Theer is depth both in and out of the 22 that play any given week. The 2010 Collingwood midfield is MUCH deeper than the 2009 version.

Apart from adding Ball, 3 young players have improved and one of the by a big margin. Those 3, along with McCarthy, got brushed aside in finals against Geelong and St. Kilda last year. They aren't going to scare the pants of anyone yet but they have pushed the likes of Lockyer and O'Bree out of the side and relegated them along with up and comming McCarthy to depth players.

If thats what pendles is saying then i agree i have all way thought st kilda are soft ,have a look at there players , dal santo, montagna, Armitage, clarke, jones, schneider plenty of bitches in that team , whats the big deal ..

come on saints you know it, i know it ,and the footy public knows it.

Well, we've played in finals for 60-70 of the 100-odd years, yet I could only manage to find 8 games against St Kilda, especially since they aren't exactly the most successful team in history. But for your information, its 5 wins to St Kilda and 3 wins to Collingwood.

Would you like to name them - especially the midfielders?

I'm sure you have them but they are not out there in your starting 22. Not in large numbers, anyway.

Why would StKilda need to bring in younger players when there team is so settled? Sidebottom and Beams are playing because there replacing 30 year olds in Lockyear and Obree who have let Collingwood down time and time again when it counted. Both of those youngers would struggle to get a game at StKilda at the moment along with StKildas youngsters in Heyne Lynch Smith and Hutchings. Jack Stevens has just played his 2nd game and was touted as a top 10 pick if he didnt go bottom age and having seen him as a junior hes a gun.

I know Armo has a long way to go before he is a great consistant player, but the one area you can't question is how hard he is at the Ball. Anyone who suggests otherwise should watch him play. He can attack it so hard that sometimes you fear for his safety. Just like Ball was at the same age, this is why the two get compared so much.

Not sure if this is exactly what Pendlebury meant but it is who cares what he says as long as he can back it up on the field next time the two clubs meet.

Yep I saw him.

3 Soft goals from 30 meters out and little impact around the ground.

Hmmmm.

The coaches beg to differ.

Carlton v Collingwood
8 Chris Judd (Carl)
8 Luke Ball (Coll)
7 Dane Swan (Coll)
5 Scott Pendlebury (Coll)
1 Marc Murphy (Carl)
1 Jordan Russell (Carl)

I know who's opinions I value more.

Knob.

Very odd statement considering how soft both teams are in this department. Especially coming from Pendlebury who has been known to shirk the odd contest himself.

You are a fool, ask Roosy if he thinks Collingwood are soft. The reason we towel your mob up consistently is our attack on the football is much harder. Which is even made more hilarious as attack on the football is one the values the Swans pride themselves on.
