hard to believe just how many of those types that we had. So many of them were fantastic individual players but probably didn't get the individual kudos because they were lost in the Carey shadow. Had so many that had that mix of skill and toughness.

Schwass
Stevens
Bell
D King
Sholl
Allison
R.Scott
M.Pike

Even more fringe guys like : Armstrong, Chandler, Anderson, Freeborn ect had some pivotal games throughout the 90's.
Yes Mr Freeborn did have at least one pivotal game. ;)

You either “went” for Denis when it was your turn or you were out the door to mediocrity. Ask Jose Romero and his hesitation v the Hawks in 94 Final

There are about 50 Carey performances you could put in here. just ridiculous some of the games that he had and we just expected it of him week in week out.

The one that stands out to me that isn't Duck is Swallows game against Adelaide in 2011, particularly the first quarter, he had 17 touches and 10 clearances in the first quarter!!!! he ended up with 39 touches and 2 goals! Ridiculous!

1985 Elimination Final V Carlton.

Carlton had us for most of the first half, but by half time we were coming. We ran all over them in the second half.

Schimmelbusch was amazing and was injured (didnt play the following week), whilst Andrew Demetriou and John Holt were huge in that second half. A young stringbean named Crocker was entrusted to hold down a key defensive post and performed really, really well.

Two good young sides trading blows, sadly Carlton went on and played the next 2 GFs and we would quietly slip down the ladder.

Carlton and their mates, the umpires had us for most of the first half, but by half time we were coming. We ran all over them in the second half.
FIFY

My wife and I were both working with AFL umpires at the time and we obtained tickets from one of them, so we sat in the umpire's section of the terraces at Waverley. They were openly baracking for Carlton, some were wearing those Ansett Woolen Mill jumpers that were around back then with CFC logos. They were giving my wife and I hell because we were the only ones in that area supporting North.

And revenge baracking is the sweetest baracking of all.

Round 19 in 1991, we pip a red hot West Coast by 3 points on a Friday night at the G to inflict their second loss of the season in a team missing Carey and coming off a flogging at the hands of * the week before.

Speaking of red, a young Tim Grath in the infancy of his AFL career quells Brett Heady who was having a stand out season and we hold on for an epic win.

Round 11, 2011 vs Adelaide

Swallow having a career-best game collecting 25 possessions in the first half. It’s one of the most dominant displays of effective centre clearances I’ve ever seen.

It also helped the setup a critical win against a bogey-side.

His whole career is underrated but this one I think fits here.

A bunch of people mentioned that game. I remember watching it and just thinking "****en hell this guys good" and wondering how long he'd keep his boyish good looks for. Genuinely thought he'd hit that point where he had another 8-10 years of that sort of performance.

Remember that one. Was Timmy’s best game for us but didn’t stop him getting dumped. Geelong got the best of him

I was only a kid at the time so was not aware of the 'machinations' of the list at the time was that to do with Peter Mann's prospects? He was a very handy player, if only he stuck around and didn't get injured all the time. Plus Keenan Reynolds jumped across not long afterwards and the indomitable Paul Geister was on the list. Such riches to keep Flossy honest....

I’m pretty sure I went. Stood on the Eastern City side on the flank terrace with a huge 1970’s blanket to keep me warm

But then again it could have been Fitzroy

Went to a wedding the day of the Final. They are still married 30 years later.
I went to a wedding the day of the 2015 Richmond final. Divorced within six months.

Wayne Schwass Round 18 1995 Vs West Coast.

I was on the half forward flank for this exact goal linked below and it’s one of my earliest footballing memories.

I remember Schwatta just being so clean that day when everyone else was fumbling in the conditions. He was absolutely manic with his pressure as well. Think he ended up with 3 Brownlow votes from 35 touches and a couple of goals.

Man I reckon Schwatter as a player doesn't get the recognition he deserves for his career full stop. Thankfull he fell a couple of games short of the ton at the Swans.

Agreed - post his injury he wasn't the same player, before that he was a contested ball beast and very clean.

I remember a Canberra game where Shannon Grant absolutely dominated the Saints.

Had 39 touches, 3 goals, and led our team in marks and tackles.

It was just one of the most complete games of footy I've ever seen someone play. He was absolutely everywhere that day.

He's always been one of my favorite North players.

In those years before we won the 1996 flag i genuinely thought Schwatta was one of the best players in the comp and up there with the likes of Schimma and Keith Greig.

He wasn't skipper and didn't play as many games as Anthony Stevens, but I reckon he was just as impactful during the glory years.

1999 - Gary Dhurrkay kicked 3.3 and played a pretty big role in our first win of the year over Richmond. We were severely undermanned with injuries for the first few weeks of the season and a loss there would have had us at 0-3, which no team has won the flag from.

2004 - Round 1 Leigh Brown's 6 goals against Adelaide as we carved them up at the MCG on a hot day by 75 points. Last game against Carey iirc.

2004 - Sav kicked 8 for us against Richmond, including 6 in the second half. We were 8 points down 5 minutes into the 3rd quarter and then piled on 17 goals to 4 to win by 74 points.

2012 - The second match against Essendon. They were still doping up to their eyeballs at this point and we were down about 4 or players by the 3rd quarter, yet we ran over the top of them mainly thanks to Boomer.
