Autopsy The started-before-half-time All Time Insipid #norfball performance v. the team down the highway who shall not be named

I’m going every week and will never stop supporting because as a teenager I was spoilt. I saw this club make 7 preliminary finals in a row. Was there for 3 grand finals and 2 flags. If I can sit through all that and everything this club has given me then I can sit through this debacle.

I was 13 at the 96 grand final, my mum could only get 1 ticket and sent me by myself. I was so happy we won but felt like it was always going to happen after the previous few years

As I was walking out of the ground I saw a bloke about 50 years old bawling his eyes out, he caught me staring obviously. He looked at me asked how old I was and said “mate one day you will understand, I’ve waited so long for this and seen us lose so much”

I’d like to be that bloke at some stage in the next 10 years because my God have I seen this club lose so much
I've been to all our Victorian games this year including Geelong, and will go next week.

When it does turn, even if its in 15 years time, it will be all worth it

I'd seriously take 5 wins for the season at this point though

I’m guessing that I’m not the only one to be frustrated on the day about the number of missed and broken tackles. On a few occasions a Cats player broke consecutive tackles before dishing off the ball. The new HTB interpretation does give some players absolutely ages to dispose of the ball making it even more important for tackles to stick.

I was going to watch the replay to have a look at this, amongst other things, but then I realised that I don’t dislike myself that much and took the dog for a walk instead.

Checked the AFL stats and Corr is averaging 0.8 tackles per game. Kinda surprised by that, I thought it would be a bit less than that.
Fisher is averaging 1 tackle a game and a contested defensive loss rate of 75%. Clearly he’s not in the team as a lockdown defender but…

We can run but forgot in the preseason it's a contact sport.

Terrible planning by all involved. How do they get that so wrong?

You obviously didn’t watch the game or read any media reports then?
I did watch the game . Elliot Yeo and waterman were way better . Sheezle dominated but no media about him . Yeah he’ll be good but he’s being shoved down our throats like Daicos . Sheezle wasn’t talk and isn’t talked about like these 2 guys . The media love stirring the Roos supporters look what happened with the sook . So meh .

Positives:
  • Sheez
  • Comben still not injured
  • Given we lack depth, skill and talent, Drury and Nyuon did enough to stay in
  • we seemed to try our guts out for a lot of that game. I'm kind of impressed that the heads are up and although terrible result I think Sunday could have been worse. No one is using the words 'rock bottom' for example.

But without doubt the biggest positive is that we are through our gauntlet for the year. Anyone in this thread saying they have checked out, I completely get it, but the fact is what happens next will say a whole lot more about this club then what happened the first five rounds. 1st, 2nd, 6th, 7th and last year's grand finalist, five teams with four losses between them heading into this round. That's a pretty tough group.

Also one positive for Clarko - this is his first uninterrupted year. Sure he may no longer turn water into wine but he has been here before with the Hawks. He deserves a bit more respect imo and a lot more time.

Negatives:
  • an increase in noise around LDU being NQR. The guy's a champion, or could easily return to being one, cut him some slack I say.
  • a lot of punters were laughing when we gave Fisher 5 yrs. Seems completely justified.
  • pretty much everything about the game. Gone sidewards or worse for five years now. We are in a sorry state beyond any reasonable timeframe for a rebuilt, there's no denying it.

I'll be there Sunday, honestly don't know what I'll feel if the game is a poor standard and we lose. The faith is gone, just waiting for a spark.

If you don't mind the intrusion, I did see quite a few positives from you guys yesterday.

* Comben looks at home as a KPD, and Nyuon looked pretty handy down there as well. Considering the insane amount of easy ball coming in there at times, I thought they held up very well. Corr seems to be an unpopular figure among North fans, so perhaps you could look at moving beyond him if the two young KPDs hold up.

* Sheezel as a HFF kicking pinpoint passes inside F50 looked incredibly dangerous. I don't know why he's not used in that role more.

* The forward line mix of Larkey, Curtis, Ford and Drury looked okay when the ball actually got down there. I hope you persist with Sellers, even just to stop Larkey getting endlessly swamped. I certainly don't think you need Stephenson anymore.

* Most of your guys seemed hard enough at the contest, just lacking some skill and confidence on the outside.

* The fact that Sellers, Comben, Nyuon, McKercher, Duursma, Ford and Drury are starting to emerge means there'll be some genuine selection pressure going forward. If that means some of the underperformers and battlers can be transitioned out, that can only be a good thing in the short to medium term.
Some very sensible observations. Aah, Pascoe Vale

Have you ever sat on the boundary line and watched play? It is very different from the angles we get above.

But yeh, they are paid professionals coached by paid professionals so you’d expect more.

But then Greenwood in the ruck says it all
Yeah I have Gas, home game seats are front row ground level. I've also played plenty of centre square way back; honestly that particular setup prob wouldn't happen in C grade ammos too often.

I don't think Greenwood was the issue btw, only that him at 6'3" being in the ruck should be an even bigger trigger to set up more defensively.

Just speaks to the general disconnect in there atm. Very inexperienced group I know but regardless, seems no one is taking charge.
