Actually there is no rule that says you must give way to the right at a roundabout.... only that you must giveway to all traffic already on the roundabout and enter only when there is an adequate and safe gap in the traffic. People that think you have to give way to the right are the ones that stop roundabouts working properly.
Give way to the traffic that is going to cut across your path. Nobody else.

Errr...I was taught differently. I was told to give way to the right, as well as any traffic already on there. And that was in the last year. I think you fail your test if you don't.

I think the problem with roundabouts is they changed the laws a while back. I think it use to be you always indicate on a roundabout.
The old law was way better. You only indicated when exiting the roundabout. So before you exited you indicated left to exit. No confusion. Now that WA has joined the other states in trying to have uniform road rules people have to indicate right and left to exit. Apart from being physically difficult most people fail to indicate to exit so unless you know where they started from you have no idea what they are doing.

Don't know where they are coming from? Are people really that slow?

How hard is it to understand the indications?

The roundabout should be so uniform. It's not a T Junction where you have to wait for a big gap because of the speed differential.

What are you guys struggling with?

If you want to go left you indicate left.

If you want to go straight through then you indicate left 90 deg to your exit... you DON'T indicate right.

If you want to go right you indicate right and then left 90 deg to your exit.

Its not that hard.

When you're a Learner, other drivers treat you like shit, such as they don't give way on roundabouts and they dangerously overtake you when there is little room. Scares the shit out of me.

No shit.

I had a guy abuse me yesterday. Was a bit lost (had trouble finding the entrance into that petrol station near Supre in Freo ) and I was just going in circles. Being peak hour, it was taking a while to get back onto the main road to go back in (the entrance was on the other side) so the car in front of me was taking a while. Anyway, I'm sitting there waiting for him to go and the ****head behind me beeped his horn. I didn't know it was him until the guy in front had gone, and I had been sitting there. I couldn't see a bloody thing, because a) I'm kinda short and b) there was a ****ing 4WD to the right of me. So this idiot behind me started honking for me to go. I just looked at him in my mirror and told him to be patient. Anyway, I freaked out (because he kept honking) and just took a chance (prolly a mistake) but it was all good coz the lights had turned red so there were no cars coming. Anyway, the idiot behind me didn't even wait, he went straight around me and proceeded to abuse me. So I put my finger up at him and told him to "**** off". :thumbsu:

Are you a Learner too?

Are you a Learner too?

Nah, had my P's for about 6 months now. But I still get freaked out sometimes. People just don't have any patience anymore. I remember I stalled it at a set of traffic lights when I was on my L's. I freaked out, and tried to quickly start the car, but every started beeping and stuff, which made it worse.

Never let them intimidate you though.

You shoud''ve got out and smacked hs windscreen in shibz.

People with no patience deserve to have their windscreens caved in. Nothing worse than a w***er who thinks the world owes them something.

It's not that hard, the only problem is, most Perth drivers don't feel a need to indicate until they are half way around a corner, so the roundabout just confuses them.

I travel through a large double lane roundabout every day and it's nothing short of scary. There are trucks and buses who are too impatient to wait in the correct lane doing u-turns without indicating and you never know where anyone is going.

Thanks for explaining the obvious DH. It only works well for small single lane roundabouts. My point stands the old way was better

How does it not work for 2 lane roundabouts?

In the left hand lane you go straight or left. In the right hand lane you go Straight or right.

If you are in the left hand lane and you want to go straight you don't need to indicate at all. (you can indicate left after you've gone past the first exit but the other traffic should know you aren't turning right)

If you are in the right hand lane and you want to go straight you put your left indicator on as early as possible so the person coming from the opposite side can see you are going straight.

Using these you should be able to read the traffic on a roundabout.

Sounds like a good idea...but my life is worth more then his windscreen

And w***ers that promote road rage should be bared from driving for life.

Idiots love to pick on P plate drivers, no wonder people don't put them up half the time. I think I smashed mine with a hammer after my time was up.

Yeah, but you have to admit there are a fair share of idiot P-Platers too. I actually like being a P-Plater :)
