And in spite of your constant denigration and it'd detractors I.R. is a success. Why do you go on about it ?
It's an international event that will most likely sell out the new Perth stadium. That's all that matters.
If you have been able to get close to the players and coaches you would see that they take it all very seriously.
The coaches and players take playing for their country very seriously and at the end of the last test it was the
Australian team that expressed a desire to expand the game.

Why don't you put your energy into bringing back S.O.O. or don't you want to see that either.
Currently the past and present governments are looking to pay for international sports events
and in IMO the figures simply don't stack up. The event has to generate 10x the outlay for the
government to recover it's 1/3 of the G.S.T. So that makes it 30x to retrieve the outlay.
Here we have an international event that's willing to PAY it's own way.
If you look at other codes you have to wonder if the support is there
in the light of Glory crowds, Force's cull and 18k to a RL test.

I would love SOO, but the coaches hate it and the players wont risk it

everyone wants it, until it comes to naming a time in the season and names to risk injury with mid year. SOO is as dead as University

Yep, it was a step forward in the 70s, on life support by 1990, dead by the turn of the Century ... loved it too, an era that passed.

Got a link on the formula you quote:

I want SOO with Carey, Dunstall, Locket, Ablett and that tier of player

if we did it today guys like Astbury would get the call up, because the rance's of the world will all be "injured"

sad, but its the reality

Very straight forward. The main source of tax in this case is through the G.S.T which is currently 10%
so if the government gives an entity $1, that entity has to produce $10 so the government can get it's $1 back.
Because we're talking the W.A. state government it only receives 1/3 of the G.S.T.

You do know that they have an annual event for those guys.

Im talking players of that ilk

When players of that caliber were playing soo, it was footy at its best

Watching second tier players in state kit is just wrong

The economic activity generated is included, say payroll tax ?

Yes, and still brought in the crowds. Imagine how good it's going to be now.
Perfect showpiece for Perth Stadium. Could be the biggest international sports event in Australia.
The biggets international sports even in Australia is not going to be a game with interest in only two countries, when they're playing a hybrid code made up of two sports that are essentially only played in those two countries. Sure there might be some US involvement but if you compare that to the Ashes (gets interest across the cricketing world), the Bledisloe Cup (ditto across the Union world), the Melbourne Cup, Grand Prix...
Yes it gets crowds and there is some prestige and honour for those involved. But the "world" of IR is Australia and Ireland. That is all.

The biggets international sports even in Australia isl.

Is going to be the one with biggest crowd. Don't go soft with "interest", that doesn't pay the bills.
The thread is about the Perth Stadium and importantly how to pay for the new stadium.
A sellout I.R. match is a great event to fill one day. Maybe even get a little tourism from Ireland.
That's better than most other event's strategy.

And isn't a a game between TWO competitors. Australia and Ireland. It's the crowds and the ratings in the two countries. Latest I heard was that Ch9 was making a significant loss on the cricket and the other codes cannot pull decent crowds domestically..

Squirm !

The economic activity generated is included, say payroll tax ?

I said the major source of taxation is from G.S.T. Of course there are a large selection of sources but which one's create significant income.
The scenario is a large crowd and the event's strategy is a large crowd with a lot of tourists.
A large crowd produces a lot of small consumption purchases. So G.S.T. is effective. Maybe a little from income tax.
Tourism generates larger purchases. G.S.T. is still applicable and again maybe a little from income tax.
Payroll tax is only going to vary over the long-term. Income tax should rise for employes but is hidden a lot in business.

Yes, those other codes are definitely squirming. Thanks for the affirmation.
The case for I.R. is straight forward. Based on history should be a sellout at the new stadium.
I.R. is an international event and has the potential to draw international tourists.
It ticks all the boxes so let's accept this event and move onto less predictable events.

The income tax I pay goes to the Feds .... pls continue with your enlightening views.

Hes also is ignoring the opportunity cost of what else those funds could be doing. Its not like they are magicked from thin air just for this event

I asked the question so ill answer

1) the footings are there for something, and ill be surprised if its for int rules (is it still even happening?)

2) scoring has been very poor in the womens comp. I wouldnt be shocked if the afl supported games being pkayed on smaller dimensions to make it easier to score. Cynical, but this is the afl

They do it for kids soccer. It makes sense

So you're saying that by underwriting events the government is losing opportunity cost by not funding say infrastructure
or are you're saying that by underwriting events the government is losing opportunity cost by not reducing debt ?

I am definitely NOT saying that these funds should be allocated out of thin air.
The exact OPPOSITE. I'm saying any funding should return a substantial and proven benefit.
I've just explained that if the governments underwrites a project it needs a return which is derived
from a turnover many times the funding.

Well yes, you're right so it's back to the G.S.T. Thanks again.
So how can a state government get money back through underwriting events ?

It doesn't, its about economic activity - you should check out the GP debate that has been running in Vic since SA was Jeffed & the event moved to Melbourne.
