Primetime where?
Let me rephrase...if it was broadcast when the whole of Australia was awake for the whole match. As opposed to if a game starts at 7.40 in Perth and people start going to bed during it in the east.
At least if the game starts early in the west you're not losing large portions of the audience to their pillows by half time.

Not everyone has the time/dedication or whatever else to stay up til 11.30 to watch their team play. Many more are able to go to/watch a match when it's in a timeslot that finds a happy medium...eg 5.50WST/7.50EST

Financially it's better to have the two Saturday night games starting 3 hours apart as to not intrude on one and other.

Having two games vaxk to back doesnt mean you dont lose the kids for games finishing at midnight

You can use the same argument against starting the Melbourne games at 4:40pm WST in Perth at the start of the season. You lose a lot of the audience in WA because most people are still at work.

Yeah i'm sure those Victorian kids are relieved that they can watch Fremantle v Gold Coast at a reasonable hour.

There is no decent reason that game couldn't have been played at 7:30 WST.

The fact the game will finish at midnight for most the afl market is the decent reason

So you saying it is justified for treating WA teams & the WA public like crap?

How about we just make WCE & Freo host sll their home games in Melbourne. That way the Victorian public can go to the games & watch them at a convenient time.

Im saying the afl will treat any club like crap to optimize its tv product. Just look at twilight games which are universally hated.... except on tv

Lucky you. Getting all those games more in sunshine.
Sometimes the grass is not actually greener on the other side.
You know what that saying is getting at? The sheep or goat or whatever the hell it was, was never allowed the other side of the fence. So it didn't know it was the same. But we have had a taste of the other side of the fence. I know that a night game on Friday or Saturday is better than a Sunday day game. Unlike Melbourne, in WA we actually get sun. Day games with half the crowd looking into it is not so much fun.

A better saying would be Don't piss on my head and tell me its raining.

Yeah, you could use that argument ... but that is implying some sort of equivalence between WA TV viewing numbers compared to the rest of Australia.

According to the BOS, as at March 2017, WA has a population of 2.57m whereas the rest of Australia has 21.94m. It follows thus that for any nationally televised event, take a guess what timezone any TV broadcaster would consider for prime time viewing. Obviously it'll always be EST simply by the overwhelming weight of numbers.

Of course WA doesn't matter. WA doesn't matter on nearly every other national decision, so why should this be any different?

The funny thing is when the unfairness is pointed out WA is treated as being a whinger/ungrateful

not universal
GWS and GC markets like twilight
Not all of the market. Bottom line is when their's regular games on in your neighbourhood, you put up with the lack of sunshine. The club wants juniors and families and it's agood slot for them, possibly after playing juniors earlier. It hurt's in Canberra, the temp has big swings there away from the coast. A fairly pleasant sunny day can make brass monkeys cautious after sunset.

Not for most of the market for that game.

Funnily enough, it would rate far higher nationally with the late start.

This is why i dont get some posters

You complain that wa games dont get attention on the national stage, but you want timeslots that take you off of it

So we should bend over backwards to suit the east coast and be satisfied with the occasional prime-time game in a market that cares 0% about the non-Victorian teams and where the public & commentators struggle to correctly name the non-Victorian players?

If there were 2 games on a Sat night, the game involving a game in Perth would probably not be on free-to-air tv in Victoria anyway.

There’s no point sooking about it. There’s nothing we can do about it.

If you want east coast viewers to give a shit, and give your sponsors maxmum exposure, yes

I hate friday night football, but i know exactly why my club wants those games - coin

We are a professional comp, if you want local support the vfl/sanfl/wafl

You are under the misconception that Victorian people, AFL, media or commentators would give a shit about WCE or Freo if they played primetime EST rather than primetime WST. Why put yourself out for EST when it doesn't matter to them?

You are a separatist I’m guessing? You really have no idea if you think Melb is one big Vic footy only love in. Weagles footy under mick and the rivalry with the swans later on provided viewers with awesome games. People would rather watch that any day of the week

You barrack for your team, then it’s about watching a good game

You guess wrong. A realist.

You only have to watch all the footy shows that pointedly ignore the non-Victorian teams and the Commentators who struggle to name non-Victorian players. I think the forget that people outside of Victoria even watch the games or shows. Either that or they just don't care.

So... when you consider that, why should the non-Victorian teams put themselves out to suit Victorians when it doesn't flow the other way?
