I’ve no doubt the NRL has offered up a sizeable financial inducement to beat footy onto the park. To accept that cash might not quite be selling your soul – but it is selling out your number one tenant.

Fair enough. If the NRL want to waste their money GA.

Wouldn't say it's a waste of money by them at all. They've taken a couple of games that would almost certainly draw less than 10k each at NIB and used the novelty effect of the stadium to probably add another 20-30k on top of that. Although if they are the 5th or 6th event i'd be surprised if it got more than 20k. Spread over 2 games that could look incredibly embarrassing in a 60k venue. So I guess it's a calculated risk. But probably worth it.

Being a double-headed wont add to the numbers much. I'd see that as a negative to the uninitiated. Maybe 30k tops.
Living in Sydney, all NRL bleated about was the need to have their own purpose-built rectangular stadia
for a better viewing experience. Now they're going from a probably capacity PRS to half-empty oval ?
What's the greater advertisement for NRL ?
What's the better viewing experience ?
What's the better atmosphere ?

Do not pay any attention to NRL, do not see any reason to pay any attention to it at Perth stadium. To me the opening of the stadium will be the first AFL game, regardless of what may occur earlier.

I really don't see the NRL double header as a problem. It's a great opportunity to iron out the kinks in game Day management at half capacity before a full house in Round One.
You'd want to hope they have the kinks ironed out before Ed Shearan on March 2

I'm lost. Are you for the NRL double header at Perth Stadium or not?

I'm for the Perth stadium recouping as much of it's massive cost as possible.
So I'm hoping the NRL are paying the $1million price asked of the AFL especially as it's two games not one.

As for the promotion itself, seriously, I'd find a double-header doubly boring as a single game.
From the NRL's p.o.v. I don't see why you wouldn't use a purpose built rectangular stadium at a much cheaper price.
At the end of the AFL season, nobody is going to care that a rock act opened the stadium followed by a minor sport.

I think it more likely that the government is paying them $ 1 mill, than they are paying the government $1 mill.

The AFL is the cash cow to be milked, the NRL are an 'event' to be enticed.

Why would you pay $1 million when it's projected to optimistically bring only $2.2 to the state.
That only brings $80,000 GST to W.A. which doesn't cover the running cost for one game let alone two games.
They are predicting only 3,000 Sydney-siders making the trip.
There's only deficit in your suggestion.
