Petries future role.

I don't understand your line of thinking.

It seems, you're trying to say, Petrie, Wells, Pratt, Firrito etc, will have nothing to do with a serious finals tilt in just 2 years?

If so, you're dead wrong. You only have to look at the 1999 Grand Final to see that we had players over 30 within the squad. John Blakey (33), Mick Martyn (31), Craig Sholl (31, closer to 32), Brett Allison (31) etc. Wayne Carey would have been around 28 years of age at the time, meaning in 2 years as you suggest, we push for finals heavily, Petrie would be (29), Firrito (28), Wells (27).

If they are just transitional players, then in 2 years, who do you suppose will fill their void, if they're too old to play?

The clear difference here is that in 99 we were still in the premiership mode of course people over 30s were retained and relied upon. But we are not in a premiership mode now, hence our job is to move the team forward and forge a team brimming with class.

Just check out the eyes, you know window to the premiership type stuff.

I've been a Petrie critic for years but he is in a unique position at North, having never fulfilled his expectations but also in the enviable position as un tradeable too, would almost be the least most likely to be traded, excluding, Jack, Ben, Ryan etc.
Deserves to be regarded as a champion, but he's not there yet, hate to say it but his 2011 results will be under extreme scrutiny.

If he's given half the opportunity as Hale to make FF his own, then he'll get the results.

He is a different player to the young guy who struggled with expectation and the added pressure of a premature elevation to the leadership group.

I'm confident he is The Man and in time, will get the plaudits he deserves.
