And if Walsh gets the job at West Lakes, he'll have one of his own.... Pre-filled.

Crows fans seem think they have just pulled of the biggest heist in history...

Considering we heard all year from them the only reason we were so good was because all our opponents broke down injured & that we are incredibly overrated, im not sure why they'd want to raid our coaching stocks.

Interesting - the crows are accused of being a boys club especially post Tippet.

They get an outsider to be CEO. They get another outsider from the enemy in Walsh as coach. If it works they are geniuses. If it doesnt then the mob will be screaming to only select ex crowies because the outsiders were failures.
But Ricciutto is still running the place like Kim Jong Un

There shouldnt be a lack of quality applicants for our assistant positions....seeing how one year in the job with us gets them a senior gig.

I'd be extremely disappointed if Walsh and Nicks joined the Crows coaching panel. I think continuity in the coaching panel for a year or two, with our young playing group, wouldn't be such a bad thing.
Agree with sentiment. While continuity is not essential, it is important. Would be nice if we had the same quality panel for three years.

Yeah ... sacking a coach with 2 years left on his contract in order to hire a second stringer who has never declared ambitions to be a senior coach. Yawn - wake me up if they poach Hinkley, KT, Koch, Boak, or Burgess. I was worried they were going to get Clarkson.
Yes, summed up well.

People keep saying this but he is getting more money and a higher position.

Walsh as senior coach and Nicks as senior assistant is incredibly underwhelming and screams as desperation but at least for their customers it will seem as they have at a minimum caused a huge distraction at Port!
Looking at the Advertiser this morning and there is close a full page spread on the three candidates. I think they are in a slight amount of trouble. They have nowhere near a coach they would have hoped to pick up after Sanderson was knifed. One would think that their best outcome is Dew as senior and Walsh as assistant. They do want Walsh, and they may have to compromise to get Walsh and take him as a senior coach. But then, they are going to have a problem getting an assistant coach to compliment Walsh. Even with Hinkley, it's taken him two years to really learn the caper.

Dew is interesting and looks like will become a very good senior coach. But he will need a few years of support.

So, I can understand why they will take Walsh. But what they hoped to get originally (a Thompson, Clarkson, Goodwin type) is a cavern to what they are going to get.

Is there any confirmation Nicks has a contract.

In 2011 he was on a contract for the following year (2012). You would think that a coach would have 3 year contracts at the very least for stability. So when he was promoted to defensive coach from development at the end of 2012, he would have been given another 3 year contract...which means he's out of contract at the end of this year.

As other posters have said, it's the game plan that makes these guys look good. Not saying that Nicks isn't a great defensive coach, but if Ricciuto thinks that he's the reason why Port Adelaide does so well he really doesn't have a clue and needs to rack up another line.

Thanks. Just one thing, three year contract at end of 2012 takes him to end of next year (2015), or do I have it wrong?

Soon they will be working assistant coaches contracts like player contracts and get an extension for two years a year out from when it ends.

Yeah, when I said 'this year' I mean 'this coming season' ergo 2015.

So another one is talking to the fruities, raid them and try and unstable them for next year in the process? i wonder if that's part of the mantra? Kern is such a strong coach i doubt it will hurt we'll get more good ppl in, I'll say it again though it's one thing to try for the top job but if they are considering similar roles at the crows to jobs they already have with us make the choice easy & piss them off.

Both Cornes boys, Cassisi and Shaun raved about his hand in their midfield development.

It's fair to say he would've had a fair degree of input into Gray's sudden rise too.
A decade is a long, long time in football though.

Robbie was probably always going to have that season with increased fitness. He has always been an elite clearance player.

If they do manage to poach both off us as far as I'm concerned that's war, they're never going to develop their own decent coaching talent worth poaching but player wise is an area we can hurt them.

Every time there is a good player that could fit in our best 22 wants a return home & has a choice between both clubs (Cameron potentially) I want us to Polec/Gorringe convince them into picking our club, Smith a free agent at the back end of his next contract get him.

Roo & *** are playing a dangerous game here, they're not only trying to become better but in the process they're going out of their way to hurt us even though the targets may not be the best candidates.

I never thought they could turn their Trigg/Sando ineptitude around so quick to make a play like this but if they succeed in this cheap play to copy us it's on like Donkey Kong bitch we need to smash these pricks on/off field.

As long as they don't get their grubby hands on Impey, Trollec and our media manager we'll be fine.
