Rumour Phil Walsh to Crows

Speaks volumes that the only guy with any level of coaching experience still remaining in the AFC coaching race is a self-confessed crow-hating career assistant with zero drive to ever be a head coach. Phil's sole motivation for taking the role is a shitload of money, and that is a massive recipe for disaster.

Impossible to reject that. I wonder if that is all base and if they would have offered that to Bolton or Dew?

Oh well Ken's contract negotiations will start soon as we are now past the half way point. KT said it will start after season end. I dont know if he has a straight 4 year deal or 3 + 1 option. Ken's results have probably added $200k a year this might add another $200k a year to the new deal.

Hopefully all this attempted pouching and Sando payout means they make a few decent losses, start going into debt and finally get off their arse to publicly jump up and.down for a better stadium deal There might be a bit serendipity out of this yet.

I figured it would have to be - this is his golden parachute. At Port, he could have easily commanded $300k+ a season for ten years. To switch allegiances and burn the bridge back to Port Adelaide and his preferred role as a midfield coach, he would have to be paid triple that over four years.

Make no mistake, they would have targeted Hinkley first. But Ken isn't motivated by money, but by success. He's like Clarkson in that he wants to build a legacy.

I'm glad Walsh is getting his money, but I also hope he fails and can retire on the Crows' payout after two years, crippling the club in the process as the Sanderson payout and Walsh payouts compound to make sure that the only coach they can appoint is Matthew Clarke.

Well, they've already said that they would have made the top 8 in 2015 WITH Sanderson, but that's not enough, they're aiming for top 4. I'm sure this was said in a radio interview with someone from the AFC. Can anyone remember who it was?
Rowey said it on 5AA. He was quoting what a Crows player had said to him and he was told that by someone, could of been a cleaner for all we know,at the AFC. Got to say I did smirk when I heard it. Bone pressed him for the players name but Rowey like the true journalist he is wouldnt say!

what was sanderson making? can someone take a stab at what they might be willing to pay walsh?

The initial 2 year payout figure of $1.4mil was backed off by the media as that included potential bonuses. Sounds like his base was around $400k to $500k range.

Devastated seeing Phil go. Ken's going to be severely found out next season, without the assistance. :(

:drunk:
Yeh, according to the brain surgeons over that way Ken can't coach and we only are a decent side due to Walsh. You couldn't make that shit up.

Just like losing Richo, life goes on, someone else will step up to fill the role. And lol crows and the 'nationwide' search. What an amusing corporation they are.

I can't keep up, is it Clarkson, Goodwin or Bassett who's going to be the crows coach?

I still won't be saying my goodbyes until it's signed sealed and delivered, but I'm almost certain he is on his way. And yes, to the Crows fans who are quoting my posts on your own board, the offer to Phil is over a million. Feel free to quote me on that. Xoxo TSW

Walsh would be a good choice for them IMO.

Strong logistically, smart footballer brain and a lot of players look up to him strongly (Boak, Kane etc). Isn't the greatest communicator and hates the media but they have Roo who has strengths in both those departments.

Don't think he is the answer to all their problems, but he's a good start in fixing them.

And yeah, the whole "he hates he crows" thing is a bit silly. I'm sure Tyson Edwards, Shaun Rehn, Keith Thomas etc hated us at some point.

Tough loss for us, but he can be replaced just like we replaced Richo. Nicks would have almost been as big, or bigger of a loss IMO. Our defence has been huge over the past two years in growth.
