The amount of money Walsh is getting from the Crows is huge, he would be crazy to have said no. Would be in the Top 4 paid coaches in the AFL

For a rookie coach? Absolutely obscene. They don't even know how good he is.

It's gonna end in tears. Oh well, everyone has a number I guess.

Some of you may remember I put a post in the general AFL thread where I cut and pasted a post from a crowie who won a prize to the GF in the Toyota corporate area. He said all the talk at GF from the suits and AFL types was that Mark Williams would be appointed senior assistant of the crows because the belief is he will help develop players but bring a true club culture to the place and help the crows keep their players. He didnt know if it was true but said that was the story he kept hearing.

I couldnt see it happening but it made sense as to what the basis to the story was. If they appoint Walsh then I reckon there is a chance it can happen. Shit if they went after Nicks and maybe our fitness staff then why not Choco? Will try and dig up that crowies post.

Nevertheless, it's an incredibly fat contract for a first timer who's never experienced the cut and thrust of senior coaching at the highest level. Until now Walsh has happily been the most famous anonymous person in football, and all that's about to change. The pressure of just coaching that mob is enough to break experienced campaigners* (*correct use of the word). I can imagine the heat being turned up even more when the hoards find out how much he's getting paid.
They may not be getting Clarkson, but they're getting a guy who'll be on a similar pay scale. Results will be expected and expected quickly.

Ah well, looks like it was an offer he couldn't refuse. Like Alan Richardson, sad to see him go but I won't wish him any luck. Part of the enemy now.

Move on, move up.

Black and white blood pumps through the veins of the AFC (not the other way around) and now they have one of our boys coaching them.

Hope the campaigners* (*incorrrect use of the word lolz) get bitten on the arse by all of this.

How much per year. I keep hearing huge but no one has put a figure down.

When Roo said they were going on a 'nation wide' search for their new coach I guess he meant to say 'state wide'.

What he meant to say was 'We're gonna look over the fence'

do they even have players from other teams wanting to go there next year lol? the only news I've heard is them sacking their coach and danger wanting out? suddenly their supporters are back out after they hear port getting involved with them.

We will get Adelaide back by not pursuing Bickley or Camporeale.

Please?

Went onto the crows board to see what they think of most likely getting Walsh but they appear FAR more interested in some fella called Rucci. This Rucci fella must be bloody good, maybe a smokie for one of their assistant spots?

I like him, has a good track record of predicting the future ;)

Re the suggestion that Choco would create a good culture - weren't there a lot of rumours about splits in the playing group and different treatment for senior and young players while Choco was coaching. I also recall that Primus talked about improving training standards when he took over. He seemed to think some players were just cruising and not working hard enough.

These Camry plebs on BF are one of a kind though, they would hardly have heard about Phil Walsh until a few days ago & suddenly he's the real football brain at Port

Burgo is all hype they've been saying for 2 years & now all of sudden their getting hard over yonder about stealing his assistants.... double :rolleyes:
Umm, they are sheep - they will accept and delight over anything that is totted out to them. A wee bit of spin and the sheep will be content.

This can go either two ways: 1) Walsh does the miraculous and turns around the crows fortunes, or 2) He quickly finds out he's not made for senior coaching and was much better in a supporting role.

Does his lucrative contract come with a free set of steak knives like Sando's? Watch your back Walshy.

Choco might have let things slip, left a few holes and played favourites but apart from 3 years at the Bears and 2 at GWS he has spent his whole life around real football clubs. Thats what they mean about helping develop a proper club culture.

Choco + Walsh - if it happens it will be a case of They Are Putting the Band Back Together

7 figures.

Ah well we have the big fish they can't get their hands on Hinkley & Burgess

Speaks volumes that the only guy with any level of coaching experience still remaining in the AFC coaching race is a self-confessed crow-hating career assistant with zero drive to ever be a head coach. Phil's sole motivation for taking the role is a shitload of money, and that is a massive recipe for disaster.

Walsh made for a great line coach, and it will be important (and temporarily inconvenient) to replace him with a strong candidate- but so long as Hinkley is leading the team, with KT and Koch overseeing operations and big picture strategy, we'll attract an equally competent midfield coach; Alan Richardson's departure was far more grating (and disruptive) with his role being a virtual equal with Ken. What's more the timing couldn't be better for this position opening up, with some experienced heads floating around and the majority of the footballing world falling over themselves to be a part of the club and learn from the best.

As for Adelaide, they had a great opportunity to start afresh and forge their own unique culture of success underneath a coach who had demonstrated an ability to turn around a stagnant former power (Norwood) in Nathan Bassett. The results he produced at the Legs were nothing short of extraordinary, and made for the perfect training for doing similar at a place like the Crows with similar issues. Walsh's curious appointment smacks of an attempt to replicate Port's Hinkley model in any shape or form, and while imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, it's a recipe for being perpetually behind the 8 ball.

Feeling more assured with the future of our proud club than ever.
