Rumour Phil Walsh to Crows

There's plenty of really good assistant coaches out there, it's taking the next step up to Senior Coach that usually proves too much for some.
Scott Watters was nearly at our club a few years ago because he was rated highly by KT. He ended up turning us down because the St Kilda Senior job came up. It could be a path we might travel down again.....

We have Aaron Grieves who's doing an excellent job.
Very happy with Grieves work and what he does for us, just recon lade suits them more as a development/assistant type role. Can't see us poaching Brendon basically.

Can people please stop suggesting Sanderson as a replacement. He's a complete dullard, a poor coach, and Ken thinks he's a complete knob.
So you're saying there's a chance?

Can't see the crows having Walsh as their senior coach. Just doesn't seem like his type of gig.

Wouldn't surprise me if it is a Dew or Bolton as head coach and Walsh as director.

Any one if those guys as senior coach alone would be too underwhelming for the sheep.

This is my feeling too. They'll outwardly make him think he's in the running just to get him in the door, and then give the job to one of the others and make him the coaching director as you said. Our club would not allow this to happen.

I think he has the right "I am the law, dont **** with me" persona to get a group of players thriving underneath him. I still think coaching is all about respect and he'd have that from a playing group. As has been said, I dont know how he'd go with having to be the face of a club, daily interviews, a salesman, a marketer etc. I think i've heard him have 2 interviews in 12 years.

I have this memory of Walsh struggling during an on-air interview one day while he was at Port during the Choco era. After that he did little with the media. You do need to be a good front man as head coach with all the media demands these days. I don't think it comes naturally to Walsh. I see him more as a back-room type of guy but a very good one at that.

Suggestions here for McKenna to be recruited as an assistant coach??

Ken was his assistant at the GC. I can't see the roles being reversed at Alberton.

McKenna will get an opportunity elsewhere as an assistant, strategist, or whatever.

As has been mentioned, I don't think that's their ultimate aim. He'll "just miss out" and they'll offer him a Director of Coaching job as consolation.....which we won't allow him to leave us for.

I think this is as much about wrenching him away from us as getting him for themselves.

we can throw names about as to who to replace him if he leaves, but how does anybody really know? we dont see what work the assistants do or how they are rated, we are just guessing names. find it odd that people can suggest this bloke or bag that bloke based on assumption. unless we have worked with them how are we to know who is good.
All true. But that is the fun part of it. I do not take it all too serious.

I'm sure that's their thinking. Strengthen the Crows and at the same time weaken Port. The end result could be Walsh staying at Port but with a salary sweetener.

What is Scott Watters doing these days? He was really highly rated by football people but got thrown in the sewage pit that is St Kilda and they dissed his rep.
Senior Assistant/strategist cannot be given to a roookie coach like Ling or Lenny. He has to have a wealth of coaching experience.

didn't dermie say he's one of the best footy brains he's come across? dunno if that means much i think he was against clarko being appointed at hawthorn way back.

Can we really stop him though? More money and a higher position - even though it's not head coach.

We were pretty into Watters a few years ago before the saints snagged him. What was the attraction to Watters? Would he be worth a look.
