Hey Guys,

I'm trying to put some hoops on the socks. But the method for the shirt front/back isn't working, as it is saying it is a fill layer. That is it won't let me magic wand the sock so I can delete the over hangs.

EDIT: Pays to read previous posts properly. I've now been using the "gradient overlay", but boy is it hard to get it to do what I want. Is there a more precise way?

Trying to do three hoops/stripes around the middle. Skinny/Fat/Skinny.

Either way, colour overlay or rasterizing the layer and using the gradient fill tool, you still need to set the colour and opacity stops. This is the bit I am having trouble with. Struggling to achieve what I want.

I tried my hand and tried to make my first guernsey, a Tasmanian guernsey. I wanted it to look somewhat like this (I screwed the green up a little... It looked darker on Photoshop):

but the magic tool wasn't working as well as I would have liked... Help appreciated.

I ended up making this instead.

I don't have Photoshop, but I have Fireworks. Is that any similar to Photoshop?

Fireworks is a web-designing program by Adobe, so no, it's not similar to Photoshop. Adobe Illustrator would be the closest Adobe product to Photoshop.

A free alternative to Photoshop is GIMP - give that a try.
If you're feeling extra keen, a free alternative to Illustrator is Inkscape - it works with vectors.

Yeah akkaps I have gimp and I have just started using the photoshop template after a lot of playing around. My ACFFL will be design is the first I've done on here on a photoshop template so I encourage you to have a go and if you need a hand with anything just asked because I have used gimp ever since I started posting here :)

Hey dude, when trying to crop your design into the guernsey, just use the magic wand on the guernsey base layer. Have it selected and click within the guernsey

Tolerance of about 50 should be fine. Make sure sample all layers isn't ticked.

Then go back to the layer you're editing, select it, press ctrl+shift+I to invert your selection and press delete.

Not sure if anyone has posted about making clipping masks
But my method is to open up a jumper template in Photoshop from the Template threadI duplicate it a number of times, I show 1 layer
Select the front area of the jumper making sure it's separated from the grey outlines
Press Ctr-Shift I to inverse selection, then delete
Now I make a clipping mask to the white jumper with a blank layer and draw all over it in there
And I do so for the other parts on each other layer (shorts back, front, collars, socks)
Then split them into folders to clear it up

If you're talking about the grey lines that separate the cuffs and collar from the jumper
I ctrl clicked the layers with the jumper and shorts and deleted them in a layer with the template which then leaves the grey lines. I guess the only visible stitching lines you can make are at the bottom of the jumper.

Then go Edit > Transform > Warp to get that curve for the jumper

Make sure you have a blank layer selected when you fill the stitch pattern in
Using, Edit > Transform > Warp, don't manually warp with the mouse, choose 'Arc' from the warp presets at the top, it stays in one curved line without stretching for me

I'm using the template you use NM, and the method above for clipping overhangs doesn't seem to be working.

That is selecting the base layer for the front of the jumper, clicking the middle with the wand, turn my layer with over hangs on, select the inverse and then delete.

Got it to work on other templates. But for some reason can't get it to happen on this... any suggestions?

Just posted this line in NM's template thread, but I thought I'd put it here too.

It's a whole bunch of soccer jerseys in Photoshop template.
Each manufacturer has their own folder, then there's files for each.
Some files have 1 or 2 jerseys in them, others like adidas and so on have up to 20.
Also has the overlay to make it look 3D.
If you're getting used to using Photoshop this might be a good things to play with to practice making shapes, changing colours etc.

Enjoy

Make sure that colour overlay or gradient fill isn't on in the base layer so it should look like (NOTE - The layer called DO NOT EDIT is simply a duplicated base layer):

On the template I have, there is only one base layer for the front of the jumper.

I turned off the colour overlay on the base layer, placed my object, in this case a coloured rectangle, over the top of the template where I wanted. Then turn it off. Select the base layer with the wand, invert the selection, turn on the rectangle, and press delete. But it just deletes the whole rectangle.
