Player Watch Pick #14 (2019) - Miles Bergman

Pretty sure that is exactly what Adelaide did with Tippett.
I didnt follow the Tippett thing closely but wasn't it Adelaide trying to reneg out of the "agreement" that triggered the whole issue.

However given it's a trade or the PSD I can't see this Ports being the same as 2003.

From memory Collingwood were offering pick 18. Choco was stuff it not worth it, especially to a direct opponent. I can't see CD or Kenny doing the same.

Love Miles off half back, after his health issues you can finally start to see the kid growing in confidence and bringing the consistency week in. Comes across as a good lad too. You would struggle to believe he doesn't end up being a 200+ game player.

I'm still hopeful he stays but if he decides against it, I'm not sure where the tipping point would be to expect the club to walk away and say "Sorry Miles, we think that's way unders your wealth and we can't sign up for that".

If he does go I'm guessing it's going to a complicated deal which would have to consider player trades, draft pool talent, whether Mitch wants to go and whether we can fill some immediate needs.

What do people think of our 2019 draft trades?

We ended up with Bergman and Williams for the pick that selected Pickett
Cash in the bank.

14. Bergman
18. Georgiades
23. Williams
25. Mead

Rookie 8 - Pasini

Mead was Father/Son so we got him with points and not a draft pick.
Not as good as the 2018 draft but still coming on strong.

Listening to the game on 5AA, Tredders seem to say or imply that Port are trying to get his signature but Miles is taking his time. It sounded like, and this is pure conjecture, that Bergman is wanting to go back to Melbourne.

I, for one, would love him to stay. He is an awesome young talent and I think he could dominate in the midfield soon.

This year he has been thrown many assignment by the coaching staff and handled them all with skill and poise to the point of overachievement.

He started on the wing and is now dominating as the 3rd tall, mid-sized elite interceptor defender.

If he leaves, we will get awesome compensation but it would be hard to watch him playing well for the Saints.

I am not one of those people who goes goo-goo gaa-gaa over players resigning but I will a bit with him just because we are really building something of an elite nature. He would be a huge part of that.

Love Miles, gun, hope he signs up soon and best case scenario, he does. Worst case, if he does decide he wants to move on, based on current form it should net us a late first rounder.

You’d think the club would likely explore ways to turn try that into Zane Duursma

If Bergman/Georgiades leave we absolutely need to turn that into Z.Duursma somehow (with picks left over)

I'm sure this was in the Game Day thread but I want to put it here because god damn does that jacket look fire.

That’s not correct.

We traded Howard + 12 for 14 and pick 18 which we then traded back for the pick we took Williams with and another pick which got absorbed by the mead bid which came earlier than it should have.

Was shithouse trading imo. We let a young contracted kpp go to a club that was hard for him and never going to walk away.

Duursma and a couple of 4th round picks left over and I'd be thinking we'd have had a great night.

Duursma would be a massive win and there's plenty of project players at the back end.
Didn’t Durrsma return a positive drug test, also found rooting 3 birds on a school camp and belted someone outside a night club in Bendigo? Also said he doesn’t want to waste his athletic prowess in such a small market like the AFL and is going to trial with Liverpool?

That’s a lot to take in.

No it was the NFL San Francisco.

I am sure there was something about another draftee caught with drugs?
Could have gone the Bailey Smith route…

It's the crippling pokie addiction that's got me concerned.

Very disappointing climax to that story which was supposed to be about one bloke and 3 females, and then somehow evolved into one about 3 blokes and one female. ;)

I've been calling it for a few weeks to see Bergman playing midfield and in the last quarter he attended centre bounces and looked good and oozed potential. He had a couple of centre clearances and that typical hard nosed game.
I think one was super clear.

With his bigger body, he has a huge amount of potential to play midfield. It would help to rest our elite midfielders when they need it. He is such a utility type and this would be another string to his bow.

I will say though that Miles does need to work a bit more on his accuracy with kicking. It is a nice boot but sometimes he does turn it over. If he tidies that up, he is going places.

Playing Miles in the midfield will boost his trade value come end of season. Hope he stays but if he leaves and he keeps on improving throughout the season then we should be expecting a top 10 draft pick.
Such a versatile player who can play down back, up forward and midfield are rare. Will be an elite player for years to come!

Does that last sentence mean he'll stay at Port if he doesn't tidy it up but go if he does? If thats the case I'm hoping he stays as he is.
