so christenson was expected to go late second round and tut was expected go late-rookie.
Expected by BF heroes, most of who copy the first couple of phantom drafts?

FWIW Callan Ward started his draft year as a plodding backman and improved rapidly throughout the year, recruiters noticed that he was imporving quickly. Sounds just like CH's bio - started slowly & improved quickly.
Probably the type that will start behind a few of his compatriots but thrive under an AFL system in terms of development.

Elite kick in the modern football era of keeping possession & zoning? Yes please!

so christenson was expected to go late second round and tut was expected go late-rookie. This looks really bad from an uninformed perspective, considering we could have used pick 31 on howard and a 3rd rounder on tutt...

We drafted Christian Howard, not Allen Christensen.

Clearly we wouldn't have been able to draft either of the players at our next pick or we would have...

Looks like a player that will make a good impact in their first season -which is what you guys want seeing as your premiership is as wide open as it will ever be

I love Bigfooty. People who have read the odd bio, maybe even seen half a match getting annoyed at who has been picked by recruiters who have spent hours upon hours watching rhse guys play. It might turn out poorly like any pick but I'll back in our recruiters over anyone self proclaimed internet experts

Spot on.

The way I see it we always pick crappy first round players and its out late selections and smokies that turn out gems. I'm on the Howard bandwagon.

My thoughts exactly. Said to SWMBO, 'I'll check BF for the drafte reaction, there'll be self proclaimed experts howling at poor selections, and there'll be somebody who played footy with or knows draftee X, and tell us we have a star'. Mission complete...:D

hooroo...

Jeepers that sounds far to logical for mine:thumbsu:

Absolute joke. All credibility lost in the Dogs recruiting staff. What a ****ing stupid selection! We would have been able to get him at the ****ing second round!

Simon Dalrymple is an idiot.

Not dissapointed. Eagle will be gone next and and gilbee isn't getting any younger and this kid is ment to be the best kick in the draft.

Then there is Aker, 3 of our best user will be gone soon. Lets not forget we loaded up on Talls and Rucks last year, and Wallis and Liber will be coming on board next year.

Very Happy

Clearly the recruiting department didn't see it that way.

I seem to remember us drafting a kid no one had ever heard of ( a little later in the draft though) and he turned up trumps. Perhaps we should just wait and see......Just like that kid....Chris Grant......who no one had ever heard of.....

They take quotes off a fan forum and it's not even Bigfooty :p

It's interesting, I wonder if there were a few clubs who didn't nominate him for draft camp/screening because they thought they were the only ones who knew about him. Seven clubs speaking to a player and no camp/screening is very unusual, even allowing for the fact that he may not have been on the radar until late in the year.

One good thing about picking someone seemingly out of left field is that you get plenty of coverage.

From the AFL Site:

Some quotes:

“I just want to get over to Melbourne already and start training. I need to do something because I can’t sit down.”

“I didn’t think pick No.15 was a possibility and the Crows had another pick before the Bulldogs in the second round, so I thought I might be a chance to end up in Adelaide,” he said.

“But I really wanted to get over to Melbourne anyway. I’m stoked to be going there. It’s the home of football and the whole experience is just going to be amazing."

“I haven’t spoken to anyone from the Bulldogs yet. I’m just waiting for someone to tell me it’s all real and then I’ll know what’s going on,” he said.

“I still just can’t believe it.”

Great to see such excitement, really what the draft is all about.

Hence why I'm letting out a spray on them. Howard would have gone third round at most, I can't believe we took him as a first rounder when we COULD have got someone like Luke Tapscott, who would have replaced someone like Gia nicely, Aaron Black, one of the very good forward options floating around, Jasper McMillan-Pittard, a similar player to Howard except a far better option (With him being from Victoria too). I think the recruiting department have stuffed up badly

Guess what, son, I've got news for you. The Draft isn't anything like what it used to be, you won't ever be finding another Chris Grant now unless you have a top 10 pick.

Forgive me if I'm completely unaware of how much you know about the draft, I do think I remember seeing you did a Phantom Draft, but how could you possibly be sure that he would have gone third round at most? Also why is there an issue of the club selecting based on what they think the other clubs will do? I have no problem with the club keeping out of draft guessing games and simply selecting who they believe to be the best option.
