I'm so torn on him. No idea if he could become a Lachie Neale/Sam Mitchell type as a ceiling, or a Bailey Laurie not quite right-er at AFL level.

I think the Laurie comp is pretty silly from people, Reid is a far better prospect than Laurie ever was. One is being talked about going in the top 10, the other was talked about as a second round pick. Im sure if you compared their stats it wouldnt be close either.

Fair play. I'm probably burnt from the Laurie pick and the talk on him being small, an average athlete but a good kick and high IQ player.

I think he's going to make some teams look silly if he falls to the teens. Same with Hotton. Both look to be naturally gifted footballers to me. Would be more than happy to pick either up at pick 9.

Yeah, heaps different.

Reid averaged 25 touches and a goal a game in the CTL this year after averaging 20 and a goal and a half the year before, and 25 and a goal in the Championships. Laurie averaged 15 touches a game in his one CTL season.

Be prepared for every mock draft to have us taking Armstrong as we nEeD a KeY fOrWaRd though.

Haha good someone agrees with me on this. I roll my eyes whenever I see someone say this now while coming off as trying to sound like an expert on our list. Damien Barrett is extremely guilty of this.

What I want:
Smith/Tauru at 5 for me
Reid/Hotton at 9

What I think/fear will happen:
Langford/Smillie at 5 (Big bodied mid)
Lindsay/Travaglia at 9 (HBF to fill void left by Brayshaw in line with our desperate Houston play.

I'd be happy with Langford. I think he's a long way from Brock McLean... And i also think we desperately need that Hayden Young type off the back flank. Salo not getting any younger and with Riv likely moving into a F/T midfield role, we need more runners with good foot skills.

Tauru is a massive reach at 5, his stocks are at an all time high, but i'm not sure why.

Langford is simply an easy safe bet at AFL level.

If he's having a quiet game in the midfield then throw him up forward and he becomes a tall marking option that can score quickly if need. If we select Langford, then I can see a scenario where he starts off as a forward with us in some games and is alternating with Petracca as that mid/forward option.

So many Reid haters, more than Smillie. People overrating how fast someone can run.
I’m definitely not a hater. I love his quick and sure hands.

For AFL level, I just perceive his style to be better suited to a bigger body with a bit more explosive first few steps.

I reckon he’s a late first rounder but let’s see - I’m not an expert so could very well be totally wrong.

I usually agree with your assessments on draft picks.

Interestingly, I also quite like Smilie although I’d prefer we brought in a bit more run. Hes very inside.

Assuming Reid won't last to pick 9, would you take him at pick 5?
If Smith and Draper were gone and we were left with the rest id consider it, no idea which way id go out of the rest think you could make a case for any 4-5 players. Think he will be there at 9 though.

I think at 9 (which might be 11 or 12 after bids) Reid would be a great get. Too high at 5 for me.

Think if Smith, FOS, Draper and Langford (which I'm really coming around too) are off the board I would be keen to split 5 if we could get another pick around 10-12 and another late first rounder.

Who would you lean towards?
I honestly dont know, let the club decide and slay them if they end up picking the worse one of the two seems the way to go. 🎓

I doubt we'd split pick 5 if anything we would be trading picks to get to pick 5, not the other way around.

I know you didn't ask me, but I'll chime in considering they're my two favourites. I think Smith is more of a sure thing to become a gun AFL player, and I'd say he's perhaps the 'smarter' footballer of the two. Whereas I'd argue that, if both players reach their potential, Draper might be a better fit in terms of our skill deficits (while Smith is also pretty quick, Draper explodes out of stoppages and carries the ball more). Smith's disposal might (?) be a bit cleaner at this stage, but the metres gained damage will come more from Draper.

I'd be thrilled with either though.

Always find it hard to put too much stock into disposal quality in junior levels, as the pressure is just so much different to AFL level.
