Sorry for the intrusion guys. I come in peace.
Just wondering what you guys think of a possible trade deal of... (ins and outs from a Carlton perspective obviously)

Out: Pick 6 might drop to #8 with a couple of f/son and academy bids), SPS (seems his papers are stamped after not playing the last 3-4 weeks)
In: Cerra, Freo's 2nd rounder (currently #27, but could drift to low-mid 30's)

I loath to lose SPS, especially if we have a new coach coming in. I also would hate to lose Fisher, but he would be my preference if I had a choice. I used SPS simply because his papers seemed to be stamped for whatever reason. Still think he will go on to be a great player if given the chance to play as a midfielder or high HFF.
Reckon you guys will possibly think it's slight unders and most Blues fans probably think it's slight overs, which usually means it's a pretty good deal for both sides if both feel ripped off.
I'm guessing you haven't read any of our other threads tearing shreds off SPS?

Sorry no.

SPS has shown that he doesn't have the fitness to play full time in the middle and has been throw around to find another role for him. He is useless to us if he can't play full time in the middle.

Its either picks 6,25 for Cerra or pick 6, future second and third for Cerra and future fourth.

SPS is less than Mitch Crowden in a trade, I hope that puts in perspective your suggestion

Crowden can do a job here, sure it's a downgrade but it's not jumping off a cliff. Plus I'd argue he's better around the sticks. Longer-term Chapman or maybe Young will come in.

Take a look at this pic with Heath Chapman from August 5th. He's huge now! Beast midfielder? 🙂👍

Fair call. Should’ve thought before I typed. It’s just so often you hear supporters say - he was a pick 10, we have to get at least that back, when their player is actually bog ordinary. Cerra clearly is not bog ordinary.

Yeah this is the interesting bit, without checking off the top of my head I'd guess the majority of top 5 picks that are traded in recent years are basket cases - Patton, O' Rourke, Tyson, Schache. When was the last time a top 5 pick was traded and the club trading him got a top 5 pick back?
There's very little precedence here is there? Even Stringer went for a second rounder or something. I think we could easily get screwed like a pooch with Bell in charge of the negotiations.

We really understand that you would be loathe to lose SPS, so as a gesture of goodwill, we would suggest you keep him, and we will graciously accept your 2022 1st as well as this year's 1st.

You're right, they were all basket cases.

Still think the best comparisons are Treloar and Shiel.

How is that paying overs for Carlton? You get rid of a player who isnt best 22 for a 2nd round pick and gain a former pick 5 with 4 years of development who was beginning to hit his prime. If anything its heavily in Carltons favour.

Two first round picks.
Pick 6 and what ever u can come up with by wheeling and dealing.

I dont think we've lost a player for unders except for maybe Langdon. We get decent compo for the players we lose. Not sure if your serious but none of them have anywhere near the performances Cerra has on the board and Stringer was doing all kinds of nasty things at the Dogs

So guys, which players do we have who can't even get a game who we can reluctantly offer Carlton for a 2nd round pick?

Conca? Giro? Acres? Maybe Leno Thomas?
Leno Thomas was a pick 1 in the Cat B rookie draft. I'd want more than a 2nd

I didn't say they did, that was the point. Most clubs don't trade top 5 picks away after four years unless they have a basket case on their hands that they just want to get rid of. So there is very little precedent for being confident we will get top 5 plus value for Cerra, even though he's worth it. Especially with Bell's chequered history

Cerra said he didn't want to come to WA.
Allen was also available. Houghton wasn't the only Kpp.
It was another case of Freo taking a mid and ignoring the need for kpp's.
Again it's bitten us on the bum.
Hopefully this time the club realises that for 20 odd years they have **cked up .
Well Cerra never actually said that. There are no guarantees Naughton is what he is if he was picked up by us and he still has a bit of work to do on his kicking. He was also a KPD at that draft, where as we'd only just stocked up at the defensive end with Hamling, Logue, Cox & Ryan in the previous draft and in that draft went for Dixon the pick after Cerra for a KPF option. While we could get sharper with our drafting choices, the context is important if you're wanting to go Captain Hindsight.
